This season in the Barclays Premier League, we have witnessed some truly fantastic goals. This list below honours the best goals scored so far in the competition.
1. Carlos Tevez against Chelsea – 25 September
After a boring first half, it looked as though the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 and Manchester City would cancel each other out. The match seemed destined for a draw. However, Carlos Tevez had other plans. The hosts were fortunate to gain possession near the half way line through
Ramirez’s slip. Tevez gathered the ball and ran at the Chelsea defence. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ashley-Cole-c6809 allowed the Argentinean too much space to get his shot away, and Tevez let rip with his deadly right foot from just outside the box. The ball rocketed past Cech’s outstretched
palm and went into the bottom right corner of the Chelsea goal.
It was a fantastic finish; however, some blame has to be attached to Ashley Cole for failing to close down the shot. The goal was notable for ending Chelsea’s winning streak in the League up to that point in the season.
2. Samir Nasri against Fulham – 4 December
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Samir-Nasri-c32360 scored two goals against Fulham at the Emirates and single-handedly secured all three points for the Gunners. His first goal was fantastic, but the second was a superb piece of individual skill that makes the Frenchman’s effort a worthy contender
for goal of the season.
Arsene Wenger’s side were playing their typical flowing style of football but they were having trouble breaking though the Fulham defence. The match was heading for a draw with the scores tied at 1-1. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Robin-van-Persie-c31380 gained possession of the ball in the
Fulham box and feinted a shot, drawing two defenders towards him.
The Dutchman spotted Samir Nasri sprinting towards the goal and laid the ball off to his teammate. Nasri proved that day that he has magic feet, weaving past 3 defenders and leaving Mark Schwarzer flapping helplessly as he dodged to the keeper’s left. The
angle seemed impossible, but Nasri somehow curled the ball into the goal when it seemed he had run out space. It was an important goal and an important three points for the Gunners as they played catch up with Manchester United in their bid to take the lead
in the Premier League.
3. Alex against Arsenal – 3 October
There was no superb patch of play or a brilliant slaloming run through defence in the lead-up to this goal, but the effort deserves a place in the list for it’s sheer ‘wow factor’. Chelsea had a 1-0 lead and were looking to finish Arsenal off for good. The
Blues earned themselves a free kick from a dangerous position a few yards outside Arsenal’s box. Drogba stood over the ball, seemingly ready to take the shot. Alex came running from behind the Ivorian and absolutely smashed his foot through the ball.
It seemed destined for the back of the net from the moment it left his foot, and that’s exactly where it ended up. Fabianski had a better chance of stopping a bullet. The ball rocketed into the top right corner of the goal, securing all three points for
Chelsea. It was a time when the Blues seemed as if they would breeze through the league with no problems. But we know now that it is never that easy.
