Top golfer Martin Kaymer meets father in Arizona for celebrations
Horst Kaymer, father of the reigning world number one golfer, Martin Kaymer, arrived at the Arizona airport to congratulate his son for grabbing the top spot of the golfing world.
The junior Kaymer told the story of a perfect week in a press release on Wednesday. He said that he went to his Arizona home after the WGC- Accenture Match Play Championship, where he met his brother and a friend. After spending a few hours at the house,
his family took him to the airport on the pretext of an unfinished business matter. However, at the airport, the 25-year-old German was surprised to see that his father had flown in from Germany to congratulate his son on his accomplishment.
Kaymer stepped up in rankings on Monday after he finished second in the first leg of the World Golf Championships.
Kaymer quoted his father as saying, “I congratulate you for being number one in the world. Next time in Germany, who knows if you’re still number one, so I just wanted to take the opportunity to say congratulations.”
Kaymer added that the elder Kaymer left after staying with him for a day. In addition to that, he acknowledged his fathers’ arrival and said that not many parents would do that, since it was a long trip, with a lot of fatigue.
Other than his father, Kaymer’s achievement was acknowledged by the legendary golfer from Germany, Bernhard Langer. Kaymer received a phone call from the former world-number one after the Match Play Championship and congratulated him on his accomplishments.
Kaymer said, “He just said he's very proud of how he kept everything together, that I have a very good family and people around me who keep everything in line, that I never really lose my focus on things.”
Langer also advised the four-time winner of 2010 to keep his social circle small to avoid trouble. The duo of former world-number one and current world-number one will play a practice round at Augusta National in April. But before that, Kaymer will face
all the top 10 players of the world at Doral where the Cadillac Championship will take place. The golfer has been paired up with Lee Westwood, whom he overthrew last Monday, and Luke Donald who defeated him in the Accenture Match Play last Sunday.
