Top golfers to participate in Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship
The Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship, scheduled from January 26 to 29, 2012, has attracted world class golfers who look set to outclass their competitors.
The field is set and every eye is waiting for the great Middle Eastern tournament to be teed off this Thursday, at Abu Dhabi Golf Club, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
A number of leading players have already gathered at the venue, joining the field lined up for a tough battle.
The strong field includes Luke Donald, Lee Westwood, Rory McIlroy, Martin Kaymer, Charl Schwartzel, Jason Day and Tiger Woods.
All the players are in the top-10 list of the world rankings, except Tiger Woods. Woods is currently on the 25th position, according to the Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR).
Having leading golf players on board is the most attractive part of this competition.
This tournament is the most popular event on the European Tour. It is played every year in the month of January.
The Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship started in 2006 and Martin Kaymer is the leading star, winning three matches out of six.
However, the two-time winner Paul Casey is not in the list of the golfers appearing in the tournament this time.
The total prize fund of the tournament is $2,700,000 and the winner will be earning € 334,398.
This prize money will also support the Race to Dubai, which is an ongoing activity throughout the year of the European Tour.
The Race to Dubai typically ends in December, with a concluding tournament in Dubai.
The European Tour took an initiative to expand its presence in Asia by supporting the Middle East region.
There are multiple tournaments scheduled in the current year as well, putting the Gulf golf courses on top of the rankings worldwide.
As the event will see the world's leading golfers exhibit their game, fans have already started betting on their favourite players. It is expected that tough competition will cheer up the spectators.
An overwhelming number of golf lovers will be arriving this week to see their favourites perform live at the Middle Eastern state.
