Top heats of the surfers of round three: 2011 Billabong Rio Pro
The round three of 2011 Billabong Rio Pro left many outstanding performances in surfing at Rio de Janeiro in Brazil today.
In the opening heat, the Australian surfer Taj Burrow captured the highest heat score of 14.66, while Cory Lopez of US ended second at 10.84 points in the respective heat.
Damien Hobgood of USA won the second heat with a total score of 11.33, while the Brazilian surfer, Heitor Alves, snared with only 4.03 points in the following heat.
Meanwhile, the third heat was taken over by Dan Ross of Australia with a score of 12.17 and Jeremy Flores of France won the fourth heat with a sterling score of 16.50 (out of 20).
Joel Parkinson finished first in the fifth heat with a sizzling score of 15.07, whereas the Australian surfer Kieren Perrow grabbed only 7.83 points in the heat.
The sixth heat was clinched by Bobby Martinez of US with a total score of 14.50, while his countryman, Kelly Slater, settled second with 14.10 points.
In heat 7, Josh Kerr of Australia placed first with a stunning score of 13.87, while Jordy Smith wound up second with a score of 13.17 in the following heat.
“It’s too early to think about this early in the year,” Parkinson said. “It’s only the third event of the year to start worrying about it (the ASP World Title). If it was later on in the season, then sure, but as of now, who knows what can happen.”
In heat 8, the Brazilian surfer Adriano de Souza wound up first with a total score of 15.93. On the other hand, the American surfer C.J. Hobgood just grabbed 11.87 points in this heat.
“I’m happy to move to Round 4. I can’t believe it, there is this massive crowd down on the beach and I wanted to go for it. I’m proud of myself for making that heat. C.J. (Hobgood) is a world champ and he’s surfing amazing and he does so well in these conditions.
It was an amazing feeling to get through and I’ll see how I can do in this event,” said De Souza.
Bede Durbidge of Australia won the ninth heat with an intriguing score of 12.17, whereas Patrick Gudauskas of USA captured barely 11.50 points in that heat.
Owen Wright of Australia won heat 10 with a score of 11.66, while Michel Bourez (PYF) notched 11-heat with the highest score of 19.10.
Last, but not the least, Raoni Monteiro of Brazil won heat 12 with a sterling score of 14.84 and Mick Fanning of Australia lost the heat with a score of 13.73 at Rio de Janeiro this morning.
