Top notch Europeans aim to finish the season on a high
For the last couple of months, it has been Rory McIlroy all along. The world number one not only won a major this year but he also topped the money tour lists on the PGA and European Tour as well.
With tour money lists already settled, the Dubai World Championship does not hold much of an importance. Nevertheless, many top Europeans want to finish their season on a high note.
McIlroy is the favourite to lead the field at Jumeirah but there are other top notch golfers who will give their best shot for the $8 million event in Dubai.
Ian Poulter struggled at the start of the season but he has been in sublime form since the Ryder Cup. He was very instrumental in his team’s success at Medinah.
The European Ryder Cupper wants to finish his year on a high with a victory at the Dubai World Tour Championships.
Poulter has been in hot form. He won at the WGC-HSBC Champions and finished second at the recently concluded Australian Masters. He stands a decent chance against the likes of Rory McIlroy and Luke Donald.
''I'm looking forward to this week,'' said Poulter, who nearly missed the 2010 Dubai World Tour title. ''I guess I'm in some pretty good form, so feeling like we can end the year on a very high note and move further in the world rankings, which would be
very pleasing".
Ian knows that he has the skill and character to produce what is needed for a victory at a major tournament.
''I can produce and it is within me,'' Poulter said. ''It comes out in the Ryder Cup. So why shouldn't I be able to produce that week in, week out?
''We just have to see how long we can keep doing it for. When you look at the best players in the world, they are doing it week in, week out''.
Luke Donald is also fired up for the event as he aims to sign off with a victory. It has been a tough season for Donald. He lost his number one ranking and also failed to win a major.
Big hitter, Nicolas Colsaerts has also enjoyed a decent season and a victory in Jumeirah would be an icing on the cake for the Belgian.
