Top performers of FINA/Arena Swimming World Cup: Doha, Qatar – Part 3
The pulsating performances of swimmers continued while Katinka Hosszu emerged on the starting block for her fourth final of the opening day, Women’s 200m Individual Medley (IM).
Hosszu showed no mercy to her opponents in the IM discipline as she went full throttle in the playoff and snared gold medal by producing a time of 2 minutes and 09.86 seconds.
Her title claiming effort remained almost five seconds away from the world mark of 2 minutes and 04.60 seconds, set by Julia Smit of USA in 2009.
The gold medallist was followed by teammate, Zsuzsanna Jakabos and South Africa’s Katheryn Meaklim, who secured silver and bronze medal with timings of 2:10.58 and 2:12.73 minutes, respectively.
Moments later, the audience enjoyed astonishing efforts of Japanese veteran, Daiya Seto, who completed his hat-trick. Seto remained dominant over his opponents in all three events and ensured his place on top of the medal rostrum for gold medals of the Men’s
200m butterfly, 400m IM and 200m breaststroke.
At first, Seto overpowered his challengers in the distant butterfly event. With his impeccable pace and strong determination, Seto gained a slight lead over his competitors in the start and cruised his way towards the finishing wall for gold medal.
With his persistent efforts, Seto proved his mettle for gold medal of the event by producing a time of 1 minute and 51.30 seconds. His title claiming effort remained 2.19 seconds away from the world record of 1 minute and 49.11 seconds, set by Kaio Almeida
of Brazil during 2009.
The Japanese star was followed by Chad le Clos of South Africa, who failed to overpower him over the finishing end and settled on the wall as second best finisher with a timing of 1 minute and 51.31 seconds.
Le Clos was traced by Thomas Shields of USA, who stayed prominently slower from his foregoing finisher by posting a time of1 minute and 52.72 seconds.
In a while, Seto clinched his second title of the night as his competitors capitulated in the Men’s 400m IM. The Japanese expert went full throttle in the distant IM discipline and secured the crown with an effort of 4 minutes and 02.51 seconds.
His astonishing pace remained almost seven seconds slower from Ryan Lochte’s world record of 3 minutes and 55.50 seconds.
He was trailed by Laszlo Cseh of Hungary, who remained considerably slower from him over the finishing end and hit the wall for silver medal with an effort of 4 minutes and 03.71 seconds.
Third position of the race was obtained Chaosheng Huang of China, who stayed significantly behind Cseh but appeared on the podium for bronze medal with the timing of 4 minutes and 07.58 seconds.
Later, Seto snared his third gold medal of the tournament as he rushed his way towards the finishing blockade in the 200m breaststroke. Just like his earlier swims, Seto faced no difficulty in occupying the title as he posted a time of 2 minutes and 04.87
seconds.
Seto enjoyed a comfortable lead over Germany’s Marco Koch, who followed him on the medal rostrum for bronze medal with an effort of 2 minutes and 05.72 seconds.
Subsequently, Koch was followed by Sean Mahoney of USA, who completed the podium by winning bronze medal with an effort of 2 minutes and 06.23 seconds.
