Top performers of May 7, 2011 Game 3: NBA 2011 play-offs Update
There were two games played Saturday in the second round semi-finals of the 2011 NBA play-offs. Let’s take a look at some of the top performers from the day.
Memphis Grizzlies 101 – Oklahoma City Thunder 93
Zach Randolph led Memphis Grizzlies as they came over a 16-point shortfall in the fourth quarter to upend Oklahoma City Thunder 101-93 in overtime on Saturday night at the FedEx Forum, Memphis.
The Grizzlies are now leading the Western Conference semi-finals series 2-1. They are trying to pull off what no National Basketball Association team has achieved so far. They are trying to reach the NBA Finals all the way from the number 8 spot and are
just two more wins away from the commendable achievement.
Zach Randolph
Randolph rescued the Grizzlies with his astonishing double-double in which he scored 21 points along with two assists, one block and made a franchise-high in rebounding as he clutched 21 boards during the game.
Mike Conley
Grizzlies guard Conley seemed to have been rejuvenated after he was released from the duty to guard Russell Westbrook. He thumped 10 points in the final quarter on four of six shooting attempts that helped Memphis tie the fourth and pushing the game into
extra time. Conley scored a total of 18 points for the Grizzlies.
After the game Conley explained the crucial scenario of fourth quarter and said, “I think once we looked up at the clock and saw how many points we were down, a little bit of desperation hit. We were like, 'Man, we cannot lose this game.' And guys amped
up their game, made some changes here and there, and we were able to just be scrappy and play our game, and fortunately we got the win.”
O.J. Mayo
Shooting guard Ovinton J’Anthony “O.J.” Mayo led the Grizzlies off the bench. It took him 42 minutes to score his 18 points, six boards, four assists, two steals and block two shots.
Boston Celtics 97 – Miami Heat 81
Kevin Garnett marshalled Boston Celtics as they defeated Miami Heat 97-81 on Saturday at the TD Garden, Boston. Earlier the Heat were 2-0 in the best of seven game series, but with this win the Celtics have now jumped back in the Eastern Conference semi-finals
to handle Miami.
Kevin Garnett
Garnett logged for 38 minutes as he punched 28 points and grabbed 18 rebounds to reach his match winning double-double. Boston power forward led a key surge in the second half of the game that helped the Celtics in building a double-digit lead after which
they never looked back.
Rajon Rondo
The most daring effort came from Rondo who dislocated his left elbow earlier in the game, but played in the fourth quarter. The Celtics point guard wracked 11 assists and six points during the game including a couple of one-arm baskets that helped Celtics
cruise past the Heat in a 16-point victory.
