Top players who played for both AC Milan and Inter Milan
This Sunday, in the derby Della Madonnina, Inter Milan and A.C Milan face each other. Let’s take a look at 10 of the most famous players who played for both the giants:
10) Francesco Coco
Before becoming a party animal and a clothing manufacturer, Francesco Coco was tipped to become the new Paolo Maldini. The left-back had a great chance of doing so with both Inter and A.C Milan. Inter Milan made a grave mistake when they allowed the Italian
to undergo back surgery in 2003, which led to his retirement.
9) Edgar Davids
The Dutchman was perhaps one of the pioneers of the modern game but sadly, his talents were neither seen nor appreciated in both parts of Milan. The goggle wearing Dutchman left Ajax for Milan in 1996 but spent most of his time sitting on the bench. Then
he went to Juventus and was famously pronounced as Marcello Lippi’s “one man engine room” with the Old Lady before he went back to Milan to take back his place at the bench. He then became a ‘pensioner’ at Tottenham before giving one last try at Crystal Palace
which ended sooner than it started.
8) Aldo Serena
The enthusiastic Serena had an illustrious career with both Inter and A.C Milan and changed the famous shirts no less than 4 and 2 times respectively. 1989 saw Aldo hit his peak form at Inter as he scored 22 goals that helped Inter win the Scudetto and he
himself won the ‘Capocannonieri’.
7) Fulvio Collovati
Collovati was a product of the Milan youth system and played 158 times for A.C Milan but his loyalty was tested to the limits.
Milan were scandalously relegated to Serie B after a betting scam. Fulvio was one of the few players who decided to stay. When the club won promotion, it subsequently got relegated again, this time though on footballing grounds and the 1984 Italian World
Cup winner then signed for Inter Milan.
6) Roberto Baggio
It’s a face that Roberto Baggio became the best player in Italy and the world when he was at Juventus but Baggio also had 2 relatively successful seasons with A.C Milan and then two great ones with Inter during Marcello Lippi’s reign. The ‘Divine Ponytail
Baggio’ helped Inter to the Scudetto in 1996.
5) Clarence Seedorf
The Dutchman was the only player who easily moved from Inter to Milan and easily got away with it. After 4 years in Spain with Real Madrid, he left for Inter Milan and stayed there for two years before leaving for A.C Milan where he vaulted even more collections
to his huge trophy cabinet that include 2 Champions Leagues, one Scudetto, FIFA Club World Cup and 2 UEFA Super Cups. Still playing, Seedorf will be in the Milan legend status when he calls it a day.
4) Ronaldo
A player who never got the chance to complete his career, Ronaldo was and is still the only player who has scored goals for both Milan giants in the derby. He scored the first one for Inter in 1999 and then did the same for A.C Milan in 2007. His European
career ended after he ruptured the tendon on his right knee twice but is still adored by Inter fans after scoring 49 times in 68 games and also being a part of some great performances.
3) Zlatan Ibrahimovic
The Swedish striker won 3 Scudettos for Inter after he left relegated Juventus in 2006 and is now scoring and perhaps, about to repeat the same feat with A.C Milan. He has already scored 14 times so far and has helped drive Milan to the top of the Serie
A. Perhaps another Scudetto on the cards?
2) Andrea Pirlo
Its hard to understand or comprehend that Pirlo was once at Inter after he has became a Xavi-like playmaker at Milan. Pirlo and Inter never really got along or suited each other as he was either left out or loaned out before A.C Milan saved him in 2001 and
he then became one of the most unique players.
1) Giuseppe Meazza
Meazza was a diehard Milan fan when he was a youngster but was ironically rejected by Milan for being too skinny and went to Inter where amazingly, he scored 247 goals in only 348 matches. Meazza then came back to his boyhood club after a glorious era of
13 years at Inter and now, both teams share the stadium that is now called ‘Meazza’.
