Top seed Ksenia Pervak defeats Galina Voskoboeva in 1st round – Tashkent Open 2011
Number one seeded Ksenia Pervak clashed against unseeded Galina Voskoboeva in the main draw of the Tashkent Open 2011. The players battled it out on hard courts of Olympic School Tennis Courts, Tashkent. Russian Pervak outwitted
the Kazak Voskoboeva in straight sets of 6-2, 7-5 in 1 hour and 28 minutes of play.
Two players had previously met thrice, once in 2007, 08 and 2011. Their last run was this year at the Baku Cup where the two had duelled in the semi final. Coming out victorious was Ksenia by bouncing back from a set down. Nevertheless,
Galina had won in their prior two meeting and was leading the head to head with 2-1. It was time for Ksenia to equalize the head-to-head score and when she was given the opportunity to do so, she did!
Serving in the opening set was Voskoboeva and the two players held serve for the following four games to equalize the score at 2-2. In the fifth game Pervak was first to break and took a mini lead of 3-2. She then held her serve
in the following game and secured her lead to 4-2. Breaking Voskoboeva for the second time in the set she came closer to clinching the opening set. During the sixth game she served for the set and took a competitive edge over her Kazak adversary.
Although Pervak had not hit a single ace, she was able to smash some good cross court winners and volleys that aided in her win of the opening set.
Opening the second set was again Voskoboeva and this time she smashed an ace and opened the score board at 1-0. Not ready to throw the towel, the players rallied long and hard for the first ten games and balanced the score at 5-5.
As Voskoboeva served for the eleventh game she double faulted and gave a game to Pervak, who got another statistical edge over her Kazak opponent. Capitalizing on the break point, Pervak was now serving for the match and she sprinted towards the net and put
away a high volley at the net to secure her victory.
Even though, Voskoboeva had smashed more aces than Pervak in the match, she lost most of her games due to double faults. Mean while, Pervak had earned 94 percent of her first serve points and secured a place in the second round
where she will face wild card entrant Sabina Sharipova.
