Top seeded Chinese duo defeated by their compatriots: 2011 GAC Group World Championship
The top seeded Chinese duo was defeated by their compatriots in the final of the Mixed Doubles category of the 2011 GAC GROUP World Table Tennis Championship. The match was held on May 13, at the Ahoy Arena Rotterdam, Netherlands.
The final was competed between the top seeded duo of Shuai Hao and Mu Zi with the seven pair of Zhang Chao and Cao Zhen. Zhang and Cao dominated the matters since the start of the match and won the first two games. In the second game the top seeded pair
of Shuai and Mu levelled the game at 6-6.
In the third game both the pairs equalised the score at 4-4. Both the teams remained head-to-head in the third game. Zhang and Cao won the next two points and clinched the game. In the fourth game, Shuai and Mu tried to make a possible comeback in the match
because if their opponents win the fourth game then they will eventually grab the gold medal.
The top seeded duo of Shuai and Mu won the fourth game of the match and showed that they are back in the match. In the fifth game, Zhang and Cao dominated the matters from the start, but Shuai and Mu levelled the score to 4-4 and later on 6-6 and 7-7, but
sealed the match by winning the fifth game. They won over the top seeded players of the mixed doubles category. The final score-line of the match was 7-11, 7-11, 9-11, 11-9 and 8-11.
In the semi-final stage, Shuai Hao and Mu Zi won over the third seeded Japanese duo of Ai Fukuhara and Seiya Kishikawa. They marked a straight victory with a score-line of 11-4, 11-9, 11-4 and 11-5. In the second semi-final, Zhang Chao and Cao Zhen won over
the players from Hong Kong, Cheung Yuk and Jiang Huajun. The Chinese only gave away one game in a match of five games with a score line of 7-11, 11-7, 8-11, 7-11 and 9-11.
First final and China won the match as they were destined to win. It is just the beginning they are hoping for a clean sweep on the medal tables. The finals of the most prestigious title of the event the Men's Singles will be played on the final day of the
event and Chinese players will be eyeing on it.
