Top seeded Chinese players destined to win the Mixed Doubles Title of the World Championships
Top seeded Chinese players will be winning the Mixed Doubles of the GAC GROUP 2011 World Table Tennis Championships, as the two pairs who have earned a place in the finals are from China.
Since both Chinese pairs are in the final, they will be taking home both gold and silver medals.
The duo of top seeded, Shuai Hao and Mu Zi won their first match against Kazakhstan’s players Yermek Beknazarov and Gulchekhra Khusseinova in straight games scoring 11-2, 11-2, 11-9 and 11-1. In the round of 64 of Mixed Doubles the Chinese duo won over Ligia
Silva and Cazuo Matsumoto from Brazil in straight games 11-6, 11-4, 11-5 and 11-5.
The duo of Shuai Hao and Mu Zi faced trouble while competing against the Belarusian pair of Vitaly Nekhvedovich and Veronika Pavlovich. The match extended to full seven games as both teams levelled the matters until the sixth game. However, the Chinese duo
moved a step ahead and won the seventh decider game of the match. The final score-line of the match was 11-8, 11-13, 8-11, 11-4, 12-10, 12-14 and 11-7.
In the round of 16, the Chinese Shuai Hao and Mu Zi made a come-back. They won the match against Chuang Chih-Yuan and Cheng I-Ching from Chinese Taipei, with a score of 11-5, 11-8, 11-3 and 11-4. The Chinese pair again faced the duo from Belarus Evgueni
Chtchetinine and Viktoria Pavlovich in the quarter-final stage. The Belarusian players faced the same fate as did their compatriots and lost against the Chinese pair with a score of 10-12, 11-7, 11-7, 9-11, 11-7 and 11-9.
In the semi-finals Shuai Hao and Mu Zi caused a major upset for the Japanese squad. The pair ended the hopes of Ai Fukuhara and Seiya Kishikawa from Japan. Ai Fukuhara lost in the Women's Singles rounds against Fan Ying from China. The Chinese marked a straight
victory against the third seeded Japanese player with a match score of 11-4, 11-9, 11-4 and 11-5.
In the semi-finals there were two Chinese pairs and both of them emerged successful and made it to the finals. The second semi-final was competed between Cheung Yuk and Jiang Huajun from Hong Kong and Chinese Zhang Chao and Cao Zhen.
The Chinese have continued to show their dominance in the majority of table tennis tournaments in the international circuit. They have managed to secure the top honours again by having two players in the finals of the tournament.
No matter who wins or who loses the finals, the gold will be going to China eventually. The finals of the Mixed Doubled will be contested at the Ahoy Arena, Rotterdam, Netherlands.
