Top seeded Juliane Schenk prevails in an epic semi-final encounter at Bitburger Open GP Gold 2012
Germany’s elite shuttler Juliane Schenk narrowly escaped defeat in Women’s Singles semi-final as she managed to find a good flow at the right time and won the battle against Bulgaria’s Petya Nedelcheva at the Bitburger Open GP Gold on Saturday, November
3, in Saarbrucken.
The top seeded Schenk, who has obtained a higher world ranking by reaching at number six in Women’s Singles category, had to dig deep into her reserves to get rid of her talented Bulgarian rival in a spectacular 55-minute fight.
Schenk had to work really hard as she lost the opening game but found a good flow at the right time and managed to snatch the both following games to advance into the final of the tournament.
German shuttler cheered her home fans by finishing up the semi-final clash against the third seeded Petya in hard-fought three games with a decent margin on score board.
On the contrary, the lower ranked Bulgarian shuttler played with tremendous precision in opening game and bagged it easily but failed to remain consistent and ended up losing the battle in rubber sets with a respectable margin.
In the first game, the in-form Nedelcheva who showed a staggering show in the arena as she played shots with impressive variations from starting points and created pressure on her higher ranked local challenger.
Until the end of starting half, the aggressive Schenk failed to play positive badminton and remained in trouble in the arena.
After the break, Schenk could not stop the wonderful play of her rival and eventually went down with a huge deficit of 14-21.
However, the lofty Schenk made her way back into the match by playing incredible badminton in the following set and remained successful in making the score levelled by taking this game with a stunning difference of 21-6.
In the decider, the lower ranked Nedelcheva again showed her attacking skills and remained in good position in the opening half.
However, Schenk found a good flow and started to dominate the pace in the concluding half. She remained successful in winning the set with a good margin of 21-15.
The top seeded Schenk worked extra hard in the semi-final contest and remained successful in winning it with an interesting 14-21, 21-6 and 21-15 score on the board.
