Pakistani-Dutch tandem of Aisam-Ul-Haq Qureshi and Jean-Julien Rojer got the better of the Pilipino-British pair, Treat Conrad Huey and Dominic Inglot, in a three set thrillers at the Estoril Open 2012 on Thursday. They formulated a 4-6, 6-4, 10-5 success
against their rivals to secure a spot in the final four at this ATP World Tour 250 series event held in Estoril, Portugal.
The top seeded junction displayed their class to tumble over Huey and Inglot in their first encounter. After stealing the show in one hour and 20 minutes, the Pakistani-Dutch pair advanced into the semi-finals at this clay court event.
The unseeded collaboration of Huey and Inglot made a strong start at the Estoril Court Central. They lost their serve once but capitalised on two out of three break opportunities to bag the opener with a 6-4 win.
Qureshi and Rojer on the other hand re-structured their strategy and swiftly plucked their entire serves without facing any real challenge. They cashed in one out of two break chances and pulled out the equaliser with a 6-4 score line.
The match was poised on a knife edge but the highest ranked tandem kept momentum rolling into the final set or the super tie-breaker. They ruled throughout the decider before sealing it with a 10-5 victory.
All in all, the Pakistani-Dutch pair clobbered a better first serve share of 74 per cent as opposed to their rival’s 62 per cent and magnificently clicked 34 out of 46 points on it. They also hammered four aces and capped the deal with 65 points.
Next in line for the top seeds, who are bidding for their maiden career title together, is the French duo, Richard Gasquet and Edouard Roger-Vasselin. Gasquet and Roger-Vasselin stunned third seeds, Australia’s Paul Hanley and Brazil’s Marcelo Melo, in three
sets to set-up this date.
The fourth seeded pair, Julian Knowle and David Marrero, will accompany Qureshi and Rojer in the semi-finals. They eased past the French-British team, Olivier Charroin and Jonathan Marray, in straight sets to progress at this event. The Austrian-Spanish
team lost their serve twice but cashed in four out of 11 break opportunities to manipulate a 7-5, 6-4 score line.
