Top-seeded players of the Spanish Open progressed to the main rounds: Table Tennis News
The International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) Spanish Junior and Cadet Open is in progress at Platja d’Aro, Spain. The top seeded players in the Junior Boy’s Singles enjoyed the taste of success in the qualification stage of group matches, which
were competed on May 7.
The Japanese players, Masaki Yoshida, Maharu Yoshimura, Asuka Sakai and Yuto Muramatsu stood undefeated in the qualifying rounds. Also there was success for the Indian players who showed an impressive performance in the last French Junior and Cadet
Open held in the last week of April. Soumyajit Ghosh, the number five seeded player from India, along with Harmeet Desai, the number seven seeded, made easily through the rounds.
The day did not go smoothly for players like Sathiyan Gnanasekaran, the number six seeded player from India, and Yuto Higsashi from Japan. Despite in the top place in the group rounds, he defeated Simon Pfeffer from Austria in straight games scoring
11-6, 11-9 and 13-11.
In the second match of the group round Sathiyan won over Duo Phuong Nam from Hong Kong in four games 7-11, 11-9, 11-6 and, 11-9. He eventually lost against Yordi Ramos from Spain.
Both Sathiyan Gnanasekaran and Duo Phuong Nam won two matches in the group qualification rounds. Duo Phuong Nam won over Yordi Ramos in four games scoring 11-8, 9-11, 11-8 and 11-2. In the second match he won over against Simon Pfeffer by 7-11, 11-6,
11-5 and 11-6.
The two players ended up with equal match scores. Both of the players progressed to the main rounds.
In the Junior Girl’s Singles Patricia Fernandez from the host nation ended at the top seed in the group rounds. In her opening match she won over Jill Berns from Luxembourg in straight games 11-2, 13-11 and 11-9. In the second match it was Nadezda
Mozyakina from Russia who faced defeat against her in a match of four games scoring 12-10, 6-11, 11-9 and 11-9.
Sofia Polcanova from Austria ended on the second position in the group rounds and proceeded to the main rounds. There was trouble for other notable players on the Junior Girl’s category. Carolione Kumahara, the fifth seeded player of the championship,
ended at the second position in her group. She won over Nicole Galitschitsch from Austria in a match of four games 11-5, 11-4, 4-11 and 11-8.
In the third match Carolione won over Charvi Kawle from India scoring 8-11, 11-6, 12-10 and 11-6. Carolione eventually lost against Simona Slehobrova from Czech Republic in four games 10-12, 11-7, 8-11 and 5-11. 

Top seeded players on both Junior Boys and Girls categories progressed to the main rounds of the event. The junior championship will conclude today on the May 8, 2011.
