Top seeded teams progress to main rounds of the Spanish Junior Open – Table Tennis News
Top seeded players proved their dominancy on the first day of the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) Spanish Junior and Cadet Open, underway at Platja d’Aro, Spain. The event kicked-off on May 4 and will conclude on May 8.
Maharu Yoshimura and Masaki Yoshida from the Japanese A team marked a three-nil victory in the Junior Boys team category. The pair beat Spanish duo, Xavier Peral and Moises Alvarez in their opening match. In the second match, Asbjorn Reenberg and Sebastian
Haack from Denmark were ousted by the Japanese boys.
The Japanese ‘B’ team also dominated proceedings, as Asuka Sakai and Masahiro Otsuka marked straight victories in all their matches. In the opening match, the pair beat Austrian duo, Thomas Müllner and Christian Luginger. The Japanese team then won against
Swedish Martin Cederlof and Vanja Arsenovic, in their second match.
There was success for top seeded Junior Girls teams also, as the German girls faced no difficulty in winning the opening rounds of the championship. In the first match, German Anna Krieghoff and Anja Schuh, overcame Maria Engelson and Marlene Appelgren from
Sweden, with a three-nil match score. The German girls next beat Spain’s Paula Bueno and Patricia Fernandez with the same score-line.
The second seeded French Girls team faced a tough challenge against their opponents from Czech Republic. Marina Berho and Anaïs Leveque from France lost one match against Czech girls, Daniela Rozinkova and Simona Slehobrova.
In the opening match, the French team defeated Catia Martins and Lucia Fereira from Portugal with ease and won with a three-nil score.
Cadet Group events were also dominated by top seeded teams. Hung Ka Tak and Hung Wah Tak from Hong Kong, along with second seeded Anton Kallberg and Adam Blomquist from Germany ‘A’, emerged successful on the first day. Both teams ended on top places in the
group rounds.
Hong Kong’s Cadet Girls team included Soo Wai Yam, Doo Hoi Kem and Lam Yee Lok, who ended at the top place in their group. Number two seeded Chantal Mantz, Alena Lemmer and Nina from Germany, also concluded the first day with victories.
Top seeded teams were dominant on the opening day of the event and look to be heading home with major titles.
