Top seeds ease into the men’s singles quarterfinals in the Kuala Lumpur Open 2011
All seeded shuttlers of Malaysia including Liew Daren, Goh Soon Huat, Mohd Arif Abdul Latif and Tan Chun Seang entered into the men’s singles quarterfinal stages in the Kuala Lumpur Open 2011. They defeated their opponents in the round-of-16, played on Friday,
April 8, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Quarterfinals will be played in the evening today.
The top seed of the event, Daren remained struggling in the pre-quarterfinal match against Saw Weng Jun. However, he managed to clinch the victory after a thrilling three-set match. In the opening set, both shuttlers demonstrated the same skill level by
making progress in the set with the same pace. The score reached the crucial stage of 21-21, where the top seed played a couple of smart points and won the set by a 23-21 margin.
In the second set, Saw Weng bounced back and leveled the match by winning it with a difference of 21-16. In the final set though, Daren got back the momentum and didn't spare too much time to finish the match with a 21-14 margin.
In another men’s singles match, Goh Soon proved that he is a much better player now as he crushed Misbun Ramdan Misbun with a 21-17 and 21-14 score on the board. The second seed remained in complete control of the rallies and dictated the pace of the game
throughout the entire match.
Among the top shuttlers of the event, Arif Latif also cemented his spot in the quarterfinal stage. He worked hard against Kuan Kam Chung in the round-of-16. Arif Latif lost the opening set to the opponent by a 17-21 margin. However, he managed to win the
following sets 21-11 and 21-18.
Another young and talented shuttler, Chun Seang, who has entered into the national squad of Malaysia, also booked his place in the quarterfinals. Chung Seang will be up against Arif Latif in the quarterfinal of the event.
All these shuttlers will have a great chance to win the local title in the absence of world number one Lee Chong Wei, who is busy at the moment to fulfill his commitment to play in the China Badminton Super League 2011, in China.
