Top seeds of men’s singles are through to pre-quarterfinals in the Swiss Open Grand Prix Gold 2011
All top seeds in the category of men’s singles have entered in the pre-quarterfinals by beating their opponents in the second round of Swiss Open Grand Prix Gold 2011, on Wednesday, March 16. These top seeds including, Jan O Jorgensen of Denmark, Simon Santoso
of Indonesia and Korea’s Sung Hwan Park and Wan Ho Shon are expected to brush aside their opponents to advance in the quarterfinal stage of the event.
The top seed Jorgensen started his campaign by defeating Ville Lang of Finland in straight sets in the opening round of the tournament. In the second round, the Danish thrashed team-mate Christian Lind Thomsen in the same fashion. In the pre-quarterfinal
round, the number one seed will take on Kazushi Yamada of Japan, who won the opening round match against Wisnu Haryo Putro of Italy in two-sets, and knocked Marcel Reuter of Germany out in the second round of the event.
The second seed Santoso brushed aside Kristian Midtgaard of Denmark in straight games in the first round, and continued his winning run in the second round by beating Stefan Wojcikiewicz of Canada with the same margin. The Indonesian will be up against Sergey
Ivlev of Russia, who defeated Henri Hurskainen of Sweden in the first round, and Hafiz Shaharudin of Switzerland in the following round.
The number four seed, Korea’s Sung Park started his journey in this event by beating Ernesto Velazquez of Spain in straight games, and defeated Michael Lahnsteiner of Austria in the second round. The fourth seed will play his round-of-16 match against Hsuan
Yi Hsueh of Chinese Taipei, who threw out Ivan Sozonov of Russia in the opening round, and proved his worth against Chun Seang Tan of Malaysia in the following round of the tournament.
The fifth seed Wan Shon of Korea, started his impressive run by beating Nicolas Blondel of Switzerland in the first round and remained on track in the second round as well where he got rid of Anand Pawar of India in straight sets. He will be fighting against
the senior compatriot Lee Hyun Il, who crushed Eric Pang of Netherlands in the first round of the tournament, and also showed the door to the 11th seed Joachim Persson of Denmark in the second round.
If everything goes according to the paper, Jorgensen will meet either Dicky Palyama of Netherlands or Wong Choong Hann of Malaysia in the quarterfinal. From the bottom half of men’s singles draw, Santoso will take on the winner of Sho Sasaki of Japan and
Sven Eric Kastens of Germany. The men’s singles quarterfinal matches will be played on the 17th of March, in Basel.
