Top seeds put on solid performances at Les Dunes on Day 2 of the ASP 3-Star Protest Vendee Pro
The Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) 3-Star Protest Vendee Pro continued to deliver exciting surfing action during its Round 3 (Round of 64) heats that went down at the secondary site of Les Dunes in Bretignolles-sur-Mer, France, on Friday, April
20.
The morning session featured plenty of exquisite performances, with Great Britain’s Jayce Robinson, France’s Joan Duru being some of the standout performers. Basque Country’s Eneko Acero and Indar Unanue also claimed success in their respective heats to
make their way confidently into the next round.
The surfing conditions prevailing at the secondary event site had turned out to be much more promising as compared to day 1 of the competition. The waves were still big, though they carried more scoring potential to keep the surfers interested.
The fifth heat of Round 3 saw Robinson put his formidable form on display. Adjust his surfing to the waves on offer, the English surfer managed to move to a heat-total of 13.66 points. The effort remained unbeatable until the end to carry him through into
the fourth round (Round of 32).
Portugal’s Filipe Jervis successfully extended his life in the event as well after finishing in runner-up place with a heat-total of 12.63 points.
France’s Didier Piter and Hugo Dubosc struggled to find decent scores during the course of the four-man battle, getting a heat-total of 7.10 and 6.20 points respectively. As a result, they got eliminated from the competition.
The sixth heat concluded with Acero walking away with the win after finishing with a heat-total of 10.44 points. Great Britain’s Stuart Campbell barely missed out on the top position after scoring a heat-total of 10.06 points. The runner-up finish proved
adequate to add him to the Round 4 line-up.
France’s Tom Bellevergue and Germany’s Alexander El Naib made a premature exit from the competition after finishing with a heat-total of 6.37 and 0.80 points respectively.
Basque Country’s Unanue and his compatriot Txaber Trojaola rounded out the top-two positions in the seventh heat, finishing with a heat-total of 9.00 and 8.20 points respectively.
France’s Adrien Valero and Vincent Primel failed to get their hands on a decent score during the course of the event, with the former getting to a heat-total of 7.10 points, while the latter only managed to reach a two-wave total of 4.33 points. As a result,
they found themselves ejected from the competition field.
The eighth heat of Round 3 featured a spectacular performance by Duru. The Frenchman exhibited his class and style in testy waves to get to a heat-total of 13.93 points, which served to earn him top honours and take him through into the next round.
France’s Pierre-Valentin Labord made his way into Round 4 as well after finishing with a heat-total of 12.83 points.
Portugal’s Pedro Correia and Great Britain’s Harry Timson got removed from the contention for the event title after finishing with a heat-total of 10.20 and 9.26 points respectively.
