Top six teams of World Grand Prix – An Overview
With the third round of the FIVB World Grand Prix over after the end of the weekend matches, the top six teams have emerged which will be making their way towards the final round of the competition. The final round will take place in Ningbo, China with the
matches played from June 27 to July 1, 2012.
China had already qualified for the final round of the tournament on the basis of being the host team of the final matches. Despite the advantage, China has been able to secure the second position in the World Grand Prix rankings. The other five teams that
have worked their up the ladder to earn a ticket into the finals of the championship are USA, Turkey, Thailand, Brazil as well as Cuba.
USA is leading the pack with a total of 27 points. They have been able to come up with such an impressive score after winning all their nine matches in the tournament. Other than that, USA has won a total of 27 sets so far while losing only 2. China, on
second place holds 23 points that have been secured after winning eight of their matches while losing one. Throughout the tournament, China has won 24 sets and lost only eight.
The Turkish squad has been able to earn themselves the third place in the World Grand Prix rankings by bagging 21 points. Turkey has managed to win seven matches and lose two. On the other hand, Thailand sits on the number four position cradling 20 points
that have come their way after seven wins and two losses.
Brazil is at the number five position after getting hold of 19 points by bagging eight wins and one loss. Despite their wins however, they are at the fifth place because Brazil has lost a high number of 14 sets and won 25 in comparison. On the other hand,
the Cubans have earned the sixth spot after 19 points as well. However, Cuba finds itself below Brazil as the Cubans have secured six wins and suffered three defeats in comparison.
The first match of the first day of the final round will be played between USA and Brazil while Thailand and Turkey will be playing the second match of the day. The last match of the day will see the home team and Cuba contest against each other.
On the second day of the final round, USA and Thailand will play against each other first before Cuba and Turkey have a match. The last match of the second day will be played between China and Brazil.
The third day of the final round of the World Grand Prix will feature the first match between Brazil and Cuba after which Turkey and USA will contest against each other. The last match of the third day will be played between China and Thailand.
Brazil and Thailand will compete first on the fourth day of the final round with Cuba and USA having the second match of the day. China and Turkey will play last.
The final day of the final round will see Turkey and Brazil play first after which Thailand and Cuba will contest against each other while China and USA will play the last match of the day.
It will not be certain until the final match of the tournament that which one of the top six teams is able to bag the championship but judging by the current statistics it will come as no big surprise if it is the defending champions USA that win the final
match of the tournament.
