Top snooker players to watch in 2012 – Part 2
Recent snooker season has completed half of its tenure with a couple of major events. In the past, the snooker calendar had quite a few events, many of them were minor ranking or invitational events, but after Barry Hearn joined the World Snooker as Chairman,
he made drastic shifts within the structure of the sport.
He started updating the game with some minor changes, like introducing new events. He introduced several new tournaments such as Players Tour Championship, Snooker Shoot-out, Power Snooker, Brazilian Masters and Australian Goldfields Open. His efforts for
the development of the game are second to none.
With more snooker events in the calendar, amateurs like Judd Trump, Stuart Bingham and Martin Gould were able to make their presence felt and their talent appreciated throughout the world. Winning major events, they managed to occupy a place in the top standings
of snooker players.
Snooker is one of those few sports where the mind works more than the body. Being a snooker player takes a lot of practice and sharpness of mind. The top guns of snooker really have the required skills to become invincible potters. Sometimes a sport draws
out a fine player out of a rookie but there are quite a few players who have actually changed the face of the sport itself.
Stuart Bingham
With each passing day, a new name emerges on the pages of snooker as a Champion. Many young snooker stars have placed themselves among the Champions. England’s Stuart Bingham is also one of those players who have earned their well deserved place in the international
snooker rankings. The Englishman showed great determination during 2011 and finally grabbed his rightful spot in the world of snooker.
Hearn-initiated 2011 Australian Goldfields Open was the very first major ranking event in the history of Australia which commenced in Victoria. All big names of snooker participated in the tournament.
The Binginator came in to the tournament as a qualifier but his entry stunned the critics when he reached the final clash of the event against Mark Williams after beating China’s Ding Junhui, Tom Ford, Mark Allen and Shaun Murphy in the first four rounds.
The final encounter was a tremendous tussle as the Englishman occupied the top spot with an impressive 9-8 win.
The 35-year-old was unable to claim more titles later in the year but still he can be a tough opponent as he has the capability to jump back into the game, the kind of instinct Ding Junhui is famous for.
As far as his performance in the past year is concerned, he has not compiled as many points as expected after his success in the 2011 Australian Goldfields Open but despite that, he holds a good match winning rate of 63.2 percent after clinching 24 matches
out of 38, which is not bad for a player like him. On the other hand, his frame winning ratio is 61.6 percent, as he won 138 frames out of 224.
The Basildon potter is now looking forward to put up a great show in the 2012 snooker year. The first major ranking event of 2012 is the Master event, where he will be facing 2011 UK Championship winner and compatriot, Judd Trump.
Bingham is a talented snooker player who can prove a tough opponent and can turn the tables. The Essex cueman is a must watch in the upcoming snooker events of 2012.
