Many new players emerged in 2011 and winning some events, they improved their international rankings. England’s Judd Trump, Stuart Bingham, Nigel Bind, Matthew Stevens and Mark Joyce are some of the key players who improved their rankings.
On the other hand, senior potters dominated the first half of the 2011 Snooker Calendar. Most of the events were clinched by upper ranked cueists. Some of these players can still bring fireworks on the tables in the recent year.
Ding Junhui
China’s Ding Junhui is one of the most amusing players in the world of snooker. He is famous for his break building skills and the ability to make a strong comeback into the game. For this capability, he is often called the Comeback Kid. The Chinese potter
had a convincing last year with a couple of major tournament wins.
Star of the East started his 2011 Calendar with a splendid victory in 2011 Masters snooker event at Wembley Arena. Junhui played impressively in the final and ousted Marco Fu of Hong Kong by the score line of 10-4.
After that, the Chinese was not able to claim any other title in the past year. The only noticeable win for the 24-year-old Junhui was 2011 World Cup Snooker, where the Chinese team, comprising of Ding Junhui and Liang Wenbo, defeated Northern Ireland’s
Mark Allen and Gerard Greene by 4-2.
The Jiangsu potter managed to reach the final of the 2011 Players Tour Championship (PTC) Event 2, where he was beaten by England’s Judd Trump 4-0. Junhui will be looking forward to working up some strategy in the upcoming events of 2012. Will he be able
to make his presence felt in the current season? Well, it has to wait until the proceedings of the 2012 Snooker Calendar begin.
No doubt he is one of the sharpest snooker professionals in the circuit today and can turn the tables of any game in moments. As far as his strength is concerned, he possesses a match winning ratio of 63 percent after succeeding in 17 matches out of 27.
Meanwhile, he holds a frame winning rate of 54.8 percent, which is comparatively lower, after clinching 91 sets out of 166.
He will be facing none other than the Rocket, Ronnie O’Sullivan, in the initial rounds of the 2012 Masters event, where he will be defending the title. His next stop will be Snooker Shoot-Out at the Tower Circus in Blackpool, where he will meet England’s
Barry Hawkins.
The Chinese Sensation has the tendency to unsettle his opponent with his potting skills. He holds a respected place in the world of snooker. Back in his country, he is the only top ranked player of China who is also recognised internationally.
After Scotland’s John Higgins, Junhui is the only player to have won three major ranking events in his teenage years. During his career, he has lifted the UK Championship title twice, beating Steve Davis and John Higgins respectively, and now he will surely
be looking forward to win the 2012 Masters to add another crown.
