Top swims of the 2011 Jose Finkel Trophy
The 2011 Jose Finkel Trophy saw several mind boggling and sizzling swims in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, this month. Joanna Maranhao secured the gold medal in the Women’s 200m butterfly, while Kaio de Almeida earned gold title in the Men’s 200m butterfly race.
Tatiana Barbosa won the Women’s 100m freestyle semi-final heat, whereas, Joao de Lucca notched the Men’s 100m freestyle semi-final heat.
In the beginning, Joanna Maranhao of Brazil came out strongly in the Women’s 200m butterfly final heat and took home the golden crown on the podium by posting a winning time of 2 minutes and 12.46 seconds. After the race, Maranhao was immensely pleased and
contented due to her individual swim in the competition.
In the corresponding swim, Kim Vandenberg of United States of America took home the silver medal on the podium by submitting a matchless time of 2 minutes and 12.75 seconds. The time was short of Kim Vandenberg’s previous best meet record of 2 minutes and
08.81 seconds, set back at the Paris Open.
Previously, Vandenberg secured the bronze medal in the 4x200m freestyle at the 2008 Olympic Games, in Beijing. In addition, she grabbed one silver title in the 200m butterfly at the 2007 World Championships, in Melbourne. Meanwhile, Mireia Belmonte of Spain
earned bronze medal on the podium by posting a matchless time of 2 minutes and 16.38 seconds.
Earlier, Belmonte secured three gold medals in the Women’s 200m butterfly, 200m medley and 400m medley races at the 2010 World Championships, in Dubai.
Meanwhile, the Men’s 200m butterfly crown was taken over by Kaio Almeida with a winning mark of 1 minute and 58.75 seconds. Almeida secured the gold medal in the Men’s 100m butterfly final heat at the 2006 World Championships, in Shanghai. In addition, Kaio
earned two gold medals in the 100m and 200m butterfly events at the 2007 Pan American Games.
In the corresponding swim, Lucas Salatta secured the silver medal on the podium by posting a winning time of 2 minutes and 00.47 seconds. Last, but not the least, Leonardo Gomes snared the bronze title of the platform by submitting an intriguing time of
2 minutes and 00.81 seconds.
Tatiana Barbosa powered the wall in 56.60 seconds to win the Women’s 100m freestyle semi-final heat. In the corresponding race, Larissa Oliveira earned second placed honours with an impressive mark of 56.79 seconds, whereas, Jessica Cavalheiro rounded out
the top three in a time of 57.23 seconds.
The Men’s 100m semi-final heat was taken over by Joao de Lucca with a winning mark of 50.36 seconds. In the corresponding swim, Cesar Cielo of Brazil was placed second with an impressive time of 50.43 seconds. Cielo is the first Brazilian athlete, who secured
the gold medal in the 50m freestyle category at the 2008 Olympics, in Beijing.
Recently, Cesar won two gold medals in the 50m freestyle and 50m butterfly events at the 2011 World Championships, in Shanghai. In the corresponding events, Cielo clinched two gold medals at the 2010 World Championships, in Dubai. Nicholas Oliveira was placed
third in the respective meet with a time of 50.67 seconds.
