For a project (that I have admittedly been putting off) I need to find 10 significant weather/climate events that have occurred during this century and write a short summary. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks for the help.

**I already plan on doing Katrina.

  1. Some other potential ideas:

    - Greensburg, KS EF5 tornado of 2007 (strongest US tornado since 1999)

    - Significant flooding in the Plains in May/June 2007

    - Hurricanes Charley, Ivan, Frances, Jeanne, Wilma, and Rita in addition to Katrina (as well as some other ones?)

    - Evansville, IN tornado of November 2005 (25 deaths, around 2am, deadliest single tornado in US since 1999)

    - Tornado outbreak of November 10, 2002 (93 tornadoes)

    - October 2006 early-season cold air outbreak that resulted in the earliest-ever measurable snowfall in cities like Chicago and nearly two feet of snow in Buffalo (as well as the two snowiest October days ever in Buffalo)

    - Flooding rains from Tropical Storm Allison in 2001

    - May 2003 - most tornadoes on record in one month in the United States, including 412 tornadoes in the May 1-10 period alone, the most during any ten-day period on record.

    - Snow in southern Texas on Christmas 2004

    - Record hurricane season in 2005 (shattered many records), including the first time ever Greek letters were required for storm names

    - March 1, 2007 tornado outbreak across the southern US, including the most fatal Enterprise, AL tornado.

Those are just some ideas.  I also assume you are talking about in the United States.  If you want internationally, there are many more as well.  I don't even know if you live in the US, but since you mentioned Katrina, I'm assuming you do.  Also, it's difficult to pick the "top ten" weather events, as most people have memories of different events, and each one would have had a different impact on different people.  But this should at least give you a start.

  2. 92,7% of that century hasnt happened yet... how the h**l will you be sure that the top 10 you present will actually be the top 10?
