Top ten Women players on the International Table Tennis Federation June Ranking - Part 1
The Chinese players showed a remarkable performance at the GAC GROUP World Table Tennis Championships during May 8-15. The Chinese women dominated the event from the very beginning due, which led the President of the International Table Tennis Federation
(ITTF) Adham Sharara, to change the rules for the 2012 London Olympics.
According to the new rule, only two players from each country will be playing in the matches and the third will be in the reserve players. According to June ITTF Women's ranking the top five seeds are occupied by the Chinese women players. The rest of the
five players amongst the top 10 are Feng Tianwei from Singapore on the sixth seed, Wu Yang from China on the seventh rank, Ishikawa Kasumi on the eight seed along with Fukuhara Ai from Japan on the ninth seed and Kim Kyung Ah from Korea at the tenth seed.
The top five players on the Women's ranking are Li Xiaoxia, Guo Yan, Ding Ning, Guo Yue and Liu Shiwen. The Chinese women players made a clean sweep at the World Championships. They dominated from the quarter-final stage of the event.
The top seeded Xiaoxia lost the finals of the Women's Singles at the World Championship against her compatriot Ding Ning in a match of six games with a score-line of 10-12, 11-13, 9-11, 11-8, 11-8, 7-11. Xiaoxia plays for the Wuxi Shanhe Club in China. She
is on the top seed since April of this year. Despite having been defeated at the World Championship she did not lost her ranking as she won the Volkswagen Cup earlier this year in March at Guangzhou, China.
Guo Yan is the second seeded player on the ITTF Women's ranking, as she defeated the top ranked Xiaoxia in the German Open earlier this year in the ITTF Pro Tour. Guo Yan won the English Open Doubles Women title along with Guo Yue. In the Qatar Open, she
lost against Ding Ning in the semi-finals of the Women’s Singles.
Yan is considered amongst the best Chinese players in the country. She has won two World Cup Singles medals in her career. She won her first ITTF Pro Tour title in 2002, the Korean Open. Yan was on the top seed in January but she slipped to the second seed
as Xiaoxia won the Volkswagen Cup earlier this year.
Ding Ning is holding the third spot on the ITTF World Ranking issued for the month of June. She won the World Championship Women’s Singles this year. She appeared on the ITTF ranking in 2004 at the 290th position. She won the first major title
in her playing career at the age of 15, the World Junior Championships in 2005. In the recent World Championship she surprised everyone with her outstanding performance and proved that the young talent from China has the capability to keep the countries dominancy
over the sport in the future.
This year Ning appeared in three ITTF Pro Tours and won the title in her first appearance at the English Open held in January this year. Later she appeared in United Arab Emirates Open and the Qatar Open but was unable to win the title. Her performance at
the World Championship proved that she will be a strong contender amongst the women players in the international table tennis circuit. Going from the 290th position to the third seed in a matter of over six years is a matter of great achievement
for the young player.
