Top ten average holders in American League in 2011 MLB regular season – Part 2
The players, who have made a valuable contribution with their bats for their club, could also be distinguished with their batting averages. With Miguel Cabrera of the Detroit Tigers, leading the chart with .344 and Adrian Gonzalez, Michael Young, Victor
Martinez and Jacoby Ellsbury holding second, third, fourth and fifth position respectively.
Following Ellsbury is David Ortiz, who has a .309 batting average in his 525 at-bats. Playing as designated hitter for the Boston Red Sox, the giant lefty has piled 84 runs and 162 hits. Twenty-nine of his hits went out of the park for home-runs. Most importantly,
he kept his strike-outs to only 83 and slugging average to .554. Left-hand hitter earned 96 RBIs and stole 40-second bases.
Another player from Boston is Dustin Pedroia, who has been a crucial donor for the club throughout this season. Right-handed Pedroia remained just two points short of Ortiz and maintained his seventh position in the 2011 MLB regular season. His season was
comprised of 102 runs on 195 hits that also include 21 home-runs. Entering 159 games in the season, 28-year-old hitter earned 91 RBIs and kept the pitchers under pressure with his sudden attacking nature.
Tampa Bay Rays made an impressive comeback in the month of September to be able to enter into the post-season. Their success was associated with their batters, but one hitter surpassed the others in his brilliancy. Casey Kotchman landed at the plate for
only 500 at-bats, the lowest among all chart leaders and managed to submit his name in the top average gainers. He made only 44 runs and 153 hits, but his average was .306, just one point short of Pedroia. 28-year-old left-hander played 146 games and also
recorded 10 home-runs along with 48 RBIs. The 7-year veteran strived hard to take the club into the World Series but he did not receive enough support from the other batters and pitchers.
Following Kotchman are two players from Kansas City Royals, a club that could not put up their average performance in the entire 2011 regular season. However, their top batters still impressed the opposition with their devastating hits and crucial RBIs.
Melky Cabrera scored 102 runs on 201 hits and recorded a .305 batting average to hold the ninth position in the 2011 regular season. His 18 home-runs were also the part of his scores, which he launched in his 155 games. It was the best season for the player,
as he played not only career high games but also scored his career high home-runs, stolen bases OPS and runs. His considerable proportion in the Royals’ wins will now be kept in mind during his arbitration.
The last but not least in the list is the Royals’ Alex Gordon. The 27-year-old batter could not represent his club in the last six outings of the season but it could not restrict him from making the 2011 season, the best of his career. He scored a career
high 101 runs, 185 hits and 23 home-runs. The 4-year veteran scored 87 RBIs to earn a career best .303 batting average. He holds the same tenth position, also in the runs.
With every coming season, the baseball fans witness new and exciting records. The game now has turned into one of the richest sports of America. The players are earning better than before which will boost their performance even further.
