Top ten games of Washington Wizards’ guard John Wall during the 2010-11 regular season – Part 1
Washington Wizards’ rookie guard John Wall has had a phenomenal 2010-11 season. Despite struggling with injury issues earlier in the season, which forced him to miss 22 games, Wall came back strong and proved his credentials as the number one draft pick of 2010. Wall finished the season averaging 16.2 points, 8.3 assists and 4.6 rebounds per game. Despite being in his first year, Wall was the corner stone of the Wizards attack throughout the season.
Wall was honoured with the Most Outstanding Player at the 2010 Las Vegas Summer League. His top ten performances during the regular season are:
October 5th vs. Dallas Mavericks
In his very first game of the regular season, Wall spearheaded the Wizards to an enthralling 97-94 victory over the mighty Dallas Mavericks. John landed 21 points and dished out 9 assists to put his team on the frontline in a road meeting against one of the best teams of the league.
Washington coach Flip Saunders said. "Overall, John kind of led us. He's got unbelievable speed, makes good decisions, ends up with nine assists and only two turnovers."
The Wizards were leading the game 58-54 as the game progressed into the second half. Wall took the charge aggressively in the third quarter and landed 10 points sparking a huge 87-72 which eventually proved to be a little too much for the Mavs.
November 2nd vs. Philadelphia 76ers
John Wall racked up a team-high 29 points and handed out 13 assists to lead his team to a thrilling 116-115 overtime victory against the Philadelphia 76ers. His performance even impressed the Sixers coach Doug Collins. "Oh, he's a fantastic player, a special talent. He's so big, fast and strong. He's going to be very special for Washington."
November 23rd vs. Philadelphia 76ers
On November 23rd the Philadelphia 76ers arrived at the Verizon Center to avenge their last overtime victory against the Wizards. John Wall however came in their way again as the home team once again clinched 116-114 overtime victory.
Wall came off the bench and scored a game-high 25 points and dished out six assists to spearhead his team. He made a comeback after missing four games due to sprained left foot and played as a reserve. He was unstoppable in the fourth quarter and scored 17 of his 25 points to carry the Wizards into overtime.
December 7th vs. Los Angeles Lakers
It’s very difficult for a rookie to perform against the best players in the league including the legendary Kobe Bryant, but Wall proved his talent yet again.
Although his performance could not shake the two-time defending champions, the Los Angeles Lakers, however he kept his composure against the one of best defensive teams of the league. Wall finished the night with 22 points and dished out 14 assists, haunting the Lakers throughout the game.
