Here is the fourth and the last part describing the most thrilling and action packed Grand Slam matches throughout this year;
4. Roger Federer versus Novak Djokovic, U.S Open semi final round:
The Novak Djokovic- Roger Federer rivalry according to some experts is equally great as the Rafael- Federer rivalry and was proved to be so once again at this season’s United States Open in the semi final round in New York. This
was their fourth meeting at the Flushing Meadows and Roger had triumphed in all three previous clashes, however Djokovic proved too strong for the Swiss tennis maestro this time.
The twenty nine year old Federer was down a break early in the opening set, however bounced back to take the first set at 7-5. In the following set, the Swiss appeared as if he had become delirious, falling down at 6-1. He then
took the third set but Novak stormed back in the fourth set of the match in which Roger just won a single game in New York.
The decisive set was a close one and looked as if it would go into a tiebreak until Novak, serving down 4-5, faced a total of two match points. The Serbian successfully prevented both of them with the help of his tremendous forehand
and Roger was crushed from thereafter. Novak stayed strong till the end and closed it out to advance into the title battle in New York. The final match score was 5-7 6-1 5-7 6-2 7-5
3. Roger Federer versus Alejandro Falla, Wimbledon first round:
Columbia was nowhere on the tennis scene until the opening round of the grass court Grand Slam tournament this year. In a thriller, the all time tennis great, Roger Federer bounced back from the edge to surpass Alejandro Falla
of Colombia. No one predicted it would be that tight however Alejandro played beyond every one’s expectations in this season’s opening round at Wimbledon.
Roger Federer was in big trouble when he was down after two sets. Alejandro despite losing in the end definitely played the match of his life at Wimbledon. He was up at 5-4 in the fourth set however the more experience Roger dismissed
Falla at last in the fifth set to reach the second round. Such was the quality of game from the Colombian tennis foe that Federer after winning the match admitted that he was lucky in the end to close out.
2, Samantha Stosur versus Elena Dementieva, U.S Open fourth round:
Elena Dementieva from Russia and Samantha Stosur of Australia met in the fourth round of the year’s final Grand Slam, the United States Open in New York. All predicted this clash to be a close one; however no one thought that it
would be that tight.
Stosur and Elena came into the clash with a disappointing hard-court year, but still both of them blasted some outstanding strokes throughout the match. The Australian won the opening set quite comfortably, 6-3. And Elena made
the match one-set a piece by taking the following 6-2.
The decisive set saw Elena waste a total of four match points. Both of them went into a tie break in the third set and Samantha dominated the crucial game.
She prevented four match points in getting the better of Elena Dementieva 6-3 2-6 7-6(2)
1. John Isner versus Nicolas Mahut, Wimbledon first round
In another grass court Grand Slam epic, John Isner from the United States of America won the closest and the lengthiest tennis match in the history against Nicolas Mahut in five sets. The score line is enough to explain the drama
and quality of that clash 4-6 6-3 7-6(7) 6-7(3) 70-68.
