Top ten performances at the 2011 Australian Short Course Championships
The 2011 Australia Short Course Championships ended with several scintillating performances in competitive swimming, in Adelaide, Australia, on July 3, 2011.
Kenneth To won the gold title in Men’s 100m Individual Medley, while Kylie Palmer grabbed the Women’s 200m freestyle crown. Jessicah Schipper secured the gold medal in the Women’s 200m butterfly event and Christopher Wright captured the Men’s 100m butterfly title. Rachel Go snared the Women’s 50m back-stroke crown, whereas, Hayden Stoeckel won the Men’s 100m back-stroke meet.
Matthew Terry settled for the gold medal in the Men’s 1500m freestyle race and Brenton Rickard snagged the Men’s 200m breast-stroke crown. Leisel Jones earned the golden crown in the Women’s 50m breast-stroke event, while Matt Targett won the Men’s 50m freestyle meet.
Kenneth To came out strongly and nabbed the Men’s 100m IM title with a sterling time of 51.93, whereas, Leith Brodie earned silver in 53.85 seconds. Stephen Parkes settled for bronze in 55.47 seconds. While speaking about her short course meet performance, Kenneth To said, “I have always enjoyed the short course format, testing my skills and my size which enables me to get off the start and work the turns.”
Kylie Palmer took home the Women’s 200m freestyle crown with a winning time of 1 minute and 55.07 seconds, whereas, Kelly Stubbins finished second in a time of 1 minute and 56.47 seconds. Jessi Morrison earned third place honours in 1 minute and 56.63 seconds.
Palmer asserted, “I'm really happy with that time and I'm in a really good place at the moment. That swim is good for my confidence for a good swim at Worlds and leading into the Olympic Trials.”
Jessicah Schipper snared the gold medal in the Women’s 200m butterfly final with a victorious time of 2 minutes and 06.27 seconds, while Amy Smith wound up second in 2 minutes and 08.53 seconds. Nicole Mee settled third in 2 minutes and 09.53 seconds.
Christopher Wright captured the gold medal in the Men’s 100m butterfly meet with a sterling time of 51.30 seconds, whereas, Mitchell Patterson earned the second position in 51.53 seconds. The third place went to Geoffr Huegill in 51.79 seconds.
Rachel Goh topped the Women’s 50m back-stroke race with a triumphant time of 26.82 seconds. Marieke Guehrer finished second in 27.15 seconds and Grace Loh was placed third in 27.32 seconds.
In another event, Hayden Stoeckel snagged the Men’s 100m back-stroke title in 51.95 seconds, while Daniel Arnamnart grabbed silver in 52.40 seconds. Bob Jovanovich wound up third in 52.75 seconds.
Matthew Terry clinched the Men’s 1500m freestyle title with a winning time of 15 minutes and 06.20 seconds, whereas, Poort Jarrod earned silver in 15 minutes and 13.61 seconds. Shane Asbury grabbed the bronze medal in 15 minutes and 16.23 seconds.
In the Men’s 200m breast-stroke meet, Brenton Rickard secured the gold medal with a sterling time of 2 minutes and 08.02 seconds, while Leisel Jones won the Women’s 50m breast-stroke title with a time of 29.92 seconds. Matt Targett grabbed the Men’s 50m freestyle meet with a winning time of 21.31 seconds.
The 2011 Australian Short Course Championships provided enough opportunities to both young and senior swimmers to prepare themselves efficiently for the upcoming FINA World Championships, in Shanghai, China, from July 16-31.
