The hottest discussion these days is about the greatest player of the year on the ATP tour. The debate revolves between two tennis greats; Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal.
Bettor.com, therefore, takes a look at the top ten tennis players in 2010 based on their season end ranking, Grand Slams, Masters’ series and other crowns along with match winning streaks this season.
10. Daniel Nestor and Nenad Zimonjic
The Serbian-Canadian pair stands at number ten in our ratings of the top ten players in 2010. They have performed quite consistently throughout the season. However, sad news is that the pair won’t be playing together in 2011 as both of them will begin the
next year, teaming up with separate partners on the tour.
They posted their best result of the season by winning titles at French Open as well as the year finale Barclays ATP World Tour Finals in London.
9. Mardy Fish
The professional tennis player from the United States of America, Mardy Fish has been the best player from his country on the tour in 2010. The right hander had an outstanding hard court circuit, bar the US Open.
One of his many foes was World number four Andy Murray, whom he faced on four occasions in 2010. Fish enjoys a wonderful mark versus him this season, winning all four of the pair’s encounters. Moreover, he also got the better of his countrymen Andy Roddick,
who was also shell-shocked by the mental strength and style of Mardy.
His season highlights include a singles title victory in Newport and a doubles title win in San Jose and two runner up efforts in Queen’s and Cincinnati Masters.
8. Tomas Berdych
The Czech tennis sensation, Tomas Berdych, has been added on the list particularly because of his final and semi-final appearance at two major events in 2010.
The right hander had a stellar season by his standards, a semi-final run at the French Open in Paris and a final showing at the grass court Grand Slam tournament in London, where he was toppled by world number one Rafael Nadal with great measure of ease.
Moreover, Tomas also successfully qualified for the elite eight man field in London where the world’s eight best players compete each year for the crown.
Apart from that, the Czech Republic player has not done much on the tour, except perhaps an upset of Roger Federer in his Miami clash against him.
7. Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan
The 32-year-old American twins have once again recorded a stunning year on the tour as they finishes at number one in the South African Airways ATP Doubles list.
The US pair captured the Australian Open as well as US Open in the major events in 2010. They also won a total of four consecutive Masters 1000 series titles and reached the semi-finals of the season ending tournament in London.
So overall, it has been quite a remarkable season for them in spite of the fact that they are not one of the most successful doubles contenders in history.
Bryans also broke the Woodie's mark of sixty seven men's titles on the tour in 2010.
6. David Ferrer
The Spaniard cannot be underestimated for his accomplishments this season as he is a real clay monster without any question.
He finished the season with a win loss mark of 60-24 and was one of the leading contenders on the tour in match victories. He is currently ranked number seven in the South African Airways ATP list and should not feel disappointed in losing all three clashes
at the season finale in London.
To be continued…
