Here is the second part explaining the top ten players on the ATP tour in 2010;
5. Robin Soderling
The professional tennis player from Sweden Robin Soderling had his break back in 2009, however the right hander also had a decent season in 2010.
The Monte Carlo resident who made his debut on the ATP World tour back in 2001 is currently ranked number five in the South African Airways ATP list. Last year, the Swede stunned everyone by defeating world number one Rafael Nadal
at the French Open in Roland Garros.
In 2010, Soderling at exactly the same venue and tournament shocked world number two Roger Federer in the quarterfinal round. He did well to make his way into the title battle, before losing at the hands of Rafael Nadal of Spain.
The 26 year old advanced into the final eight round at Wimbledon a few weeks later, where once again he was bundled out by Rafael Nadal in straight sets.
At the year’s final Grand Slam, the United States Open in New York, Soderling went on to win his clashes all the way to the quarters where he was dismissed by the Swiss tennis maestro Roger Federer in a breezy battle.
The top ranked Swede won two competitions in 2010, including his first Masters 1000 tournaments in Bercy which also raised his rankings to a new career high of world number four on the tour. Soderling however couldn’t perform well
at the season finale Barclays ATP World Tour Finals in London and as a result once again dropped to number five in the world.
4. Andy Murray
The Scottish tennis sensation Andy Murray will definitely end up in the British folklore one day as his struggles and heroics are things of legend.
The 23-year-old made his way into the final of the year’s opening Grand Slam, the Australian Open, beating world number one Rafael Nadal on his way until being hooked by the Swiss tennis maestro Roger Federer in the title battle.
Federer, on the other hand, grabbed his sixteenth Grand Slam crown by virtue of this win.
Murray’s other season highlights include a semi-final run at Wimbledon and Barclays ATP World Tour Finals in London.
3. Novak Djokovic
The Serbian tennis ace, Novak Djokovic is currently ranked number three in the South African Airways ATP list. The right hander like Andy Murray had a roller coaster ride of a year.
His most noteworthy achievement in 2010 was the beating of Roger Federer in the semifinal round of the year’s final Grand Slam, the United States Open in New York back in September. He prevented a total of two match points versus
the Swiss superstar to emerge victorious in the end.
Djokovic also reached the final four round at Wimbledon, Barclays ATP World Tour Finals and the quarterfinal round at the French Open in 2010.
Apart from all these achievements, the professional tennis ace from Serbia, Novak Djokovic, along with his country’s teammates, captured the Davis Cup title, beating France to seal the 3-2 win in the end. Serbia has won the Davis
Cup crown on the first occasion in the history of the competition.
He is finishing the season at number three on the fourth occasion in a row, which is actually further strengthening his status as the ‘next dominant force’, on the tour. Djokovic couldn’t win any Grand Slam title in 2010 however
he still managed to reach his career high ranking of number two earlier this season.
