Top ten stars of the Brazilian Grand Prix
The two Red Bull drivers, Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber gave a perfect 1-2 finish to the team at the Brazilian Grand Prix, thus wrapping up the 2010 constructers' championship.
Surely, it was a day of celebration and jubilation for the Austrian team that has worked so hard all through the season, providing the fastest cars of the season to its drivers. Moreover, this brilliant finish has further strengthened the hopes of both the
team drivers as they prepare for the last race of the season to be held in Abu Dhabi by the end of November.
The third place at the Interlagos Track was taken by the Ferrari driver, Fernando Alonso while the McLaren ace, Lewis Hamilton followed him for fourth place. The other McLaren driver, Jenson Button, whose title hopes were already dimmed, lost the battle
completely by wrapping up the day for fifth place.
After the 18th round of the season the points’ tally holds Alonso at the top with his 246 points, whereas Webber is only eight points behind the Spaniard. After last week’s victory, Vettel now stands at third place in the charts with 231 points
under his belt, while the lag of 24 points from the top makes Hamilton very much an outsider for the title contention now.
On the other hand, Button's championship challenge is completely over as he presently stands 47 points behind Alonso, the charts’ leader.
The surprise of the day was the Williams’ driver Nico Hulkenberg, who won pole position however, was not able to maintain his lead for very long. Only after the first few laps Vettel and Webber, who started the race from 2nd and 3rd
places on the grid respectively, took the front two positions.
It was not very long until the Ferrari driver, Alonso also moved past the Williams, occupying third slot, which he kept till the chequered flag. Hamilton stuck behind Hulkenberg, until the young German disappeared into the pit, but by then it was too late
for Hamilton.
Button, who started the race from 12th place on the grid, took an early pit as he turned to the hard tyres, which worked pretty well for him. He was able to mark some very fast laps moving forward to fifth place, while his fore runners struggled
with their softer rubber.
The Mercedes team followed a reverse strategy by staying behind Hulkenberg with their slow pace, until the German went for his pit. This worked nicely for them as both the team drivers, Nico Rosberg and Michael Schumacher finished the race at 6th
and 7th places respectively.
All through the race the two Red Bull drivers at the front battled hard as Webber tried more than a number of times to overtake Vettel but all in vain. When they passed through heavy traffic and on lap 58, Tonio Liuzzi met with an unusual accident. Webber
tried to take advantage of the situation but Vettel guarded his lead wisely both times.
Hamilton, Button, Schumacher and Rosberg tried to do a clever job by taking a pit during their lead lap. However, this did not work much as expected, as they were not able to gain any positions.
Despite his keen efforts, the fresh rubber did not give any advantage to Hamilton, as he was not able to endanger Alonso’s third position.
Even after having started the race from the pole, Hulkenberg was not able to finish any where above eighth place, while Robert Kubica of Renault followed him for ninth place and BMW Sauber’s Kamui Kobayashi wrapped up the day in tenth place.
Two unlucky men last Sunday were Rubens Barrichello and Felipe Massa as both were unable to score any points on their home ground and settled for 14th and 15th places respectively.
