Top ten walk-off homers in American League Championship Series history - Part 2
There are few, who can launch a walk-off homer, but there are only 10 who launched the greatest walk-off homer in ALCS history.
New York Yankees have a considerable proportion in this record list. Bernie Williams displayed some hitting brilliance, which makes him part of this list twice, first at the Number ten and then at Number six. His younger team-mate Alfonso Soriano joined
him in 2001 and earned the seventh place. John Lowenstein of Baltimore Orioles stands ninth while Bert Campaneris of Oakland Athletics occupies eighth place.
Never in the history of the ALCS has witnessed a grand-slam walk-off homer, before Nelson Cruz of Texas Rangers showed his hitting power in Game 2 of the 2011 ALCS at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington on Monday, October 10, 2011. Cruz capped the onslaught driving
a fast pitch of Ryan Perry to left-corner, taking his club to a 7-3 triumph. Words cannot describe the tremendous hitting prowess of Cruz in that game.
In the 2006 ALCS Series, the Tigers were leading 3-0 and Game 4 was tied at 3-all in the bottom of the ninth inning. Magglio Ordonez came out of the batter’s camp and occupied the plate against the Oakland Athletics’ closer Huston Street and launched a 1-0
pitch for a game-deciding three-run homer to give the Tigers a 6-3 win and a 4-0 Series sweep. Tigers played the World Series against the St. Louis Cardinals and lost 4-1.
An old, but valuable hit came in 1976 in the crucial Game 5 of the ALCS Series between New York Yankees and Kansas City Royals. With both clubs having two wins to their name, Game 5 became the series finale and tied at 6-all in the bottom of the ninth inning.
Chris Chambliss launched a beautiful one-run homer off Mark Littell to advance the Yankees into the most dramatic win of ALCS history. It was the first homer ever launched to win a ALCS. After clinching an unusual place in the World Series, Yankees lost to
Cincinnati Reds in the 1976 World Series after a humiliating 4-0 performance.
Probably the best ever walk-off homer was in the history of the Boston Red Sox. It may be argued as not having the same calibre to be posted at such a high place as second in this list, but what it did was what the Red Sox had never expected. Yankees leading
the Series 3-0, game tied at 4-4 from the top of the tenth inning, Manny Ramirez at first base and Paul Quantrill ready to toss, designated hitter David Ortiz came to test his power for the fifth time and launched a devastating home-run for a 6-4 win in the
bottom of the twelfth inning. It not only brought the Red Sox back into game, but the club over-powered the Yankees in next three games to clinch the series and then defeat the St. Louis Cardinals to become the 2004 World Series Champions.
New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox face-to-face in Game 7 of the 2003 ALCS, game tied at 5-all in the bottom of the eighth inning. Stadium is packed and tension is at a maximum level, as third baseman Aaron Boone brilliantly hammered to take the club into
a 6-5 win in the game and 4-3 in the ALCS. It was the first game-winner walk-off homer in the seventh outing of the series in the history of the ALCS. Yankees played the 2003 World Series against the Florida Marlins and lost 4-2.
