Top three moments of Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception: the sea, the sky and the desert
When Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception was announced for the PlayStation 3, it caught the attention of almost every gamer. Set to follow up on the massively successful, heels of its predecessor, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, the level of hype surrounding the
game from day one was phenomenal to say the least.
Naughty Dog, the game’s developer, did not seem to help themselves by showing a number of major set-pieces and levels from the game, which made everyone wonder if they had left anything to surprise everyone when the game did come out.
In fact, they left plenty. The trailers and demos the developer shared were the tip of the iceberg as the final game delivered everything promised. Yet, what were the standout moments in Nathan Drake’s third adventure?
There were many, if we are honest but the three that have made their place in gaming legend have to be the following:
3. The Desert
Naughty Dog made no secret of the fact that the premise of the third game would have Nathan Drake in the desert at one point or another. Yet, what they did not mention was just how grand an experience that would be.
Gamers had to force Drake to take each and every step as he struggled through miles upon miles of sandy dunes. By the end of the struggle, there was a sense of relief when they stumbled upon the ruins of an ancient city, only to be thrown straight into another
classic Uncharted ‘oh c**p’ moment.
The desert was hauntingly beautiful and one could almost feel the pain and suffering that Nathan Drake was experiencing.
2. The Cruise Ship
It has to be said that one of our favourite levels in any game has to be the cruise ship level in Uncharted 3. From the mid-sea fight that takes place before getting on the cruise ship, to the entire cruise ship sequence and its exhilarating conclusion,
the entire level is a jaw dropping experience.
The entire ship sways from side to side, as do the huge chandeliers on the roof, the way the ship tips over on its side following another classic Uncharted ‘oh c**p’ moment, and almost everything about that sequence made us wonder if there had been any level
like it before.
After two seconds of pondering on that we remember the epic train level from Uncharted 2 and this was the same, except much better.
1. The Cargo plane
Getting onto the cargo plane was not anything special, just a typical jeep chasing a plane down a runway before the hero jumping on to the landing gear, typical action movie stuff. Yet, what followed would have made even the most seasoned Hollywood director
jealous.
The first sequence on the plane was a never before seen experience, flying out of the plane and making it back in was another but seeing the plane ripped apart and falling in midair amongst the debris looking for something to grab onto was something else
entirely. It may not have not have ticked the realistic’ box for many but even they would have to admit it was a thoroughly enjoyable experience.
All in all, Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception had plenty of moments that had people collecting their jaws from the floor, yet one of these has to be everyone’s top three moments.
