Top three teams in 2011 Major League Baseball
Major League Baseball has maintained their traditionally characteristic quality of fierce competitiveness as teams compete to stay ahead of their rivals. The unpredictable nature of it cannot be disputed either as a team that overpowers one utterly fails
in the next game. It is probably this feature of MLB that keeps that game exhilarating and always a treat to watch.
This year’s ranking, interestingly, makes an interesting read. The three big teams that are currently at the top are Philadelphia Phillies, standing first followed by Cleveland Indians that stand second and the Boston Red Sox that come third.
Philadelphia Phillies, as the predictions were made prior to the commencement of the season, have been singularly awesome when it comes to their performance. They have played against all the teams so far and managed 54 games. Whether at home or confronting
the rivals on their respective game fields, Philadelphia have been a tough team to beat.
If nothing else, a look at the number of victories they have scored so far testifies to their increasingly unchallenged superiority. They have maintained an average of six runs per game lately, winning 34 out of 54 games and losing 20. Having allowed 182,
Phillies have scored 225 runs. They have overwhelmed their rivals at home 19 times out of 29 that they played and lost 10.
Cleveland Indians, standing second in the ranking, had a considerably tough time past week. One arena where Cleveland have not excelled, or failed to deliver something impressive, is their pitching. A look at their past few games tells us that it was their
pitchers that caused disaster and led to their defeats. Nonetheless, Cleveland as a team has other strong features to remain ascendant.
Out of 51 encounters that the Indians have so far had, they have won 31 and lost 20, maintaining .608 PCT. Where the Indians have held supremacy is their home ground. They have so far won 19 out of 25 games that were played at home. They have lost 12 of
27 they have played on the road, allowing 208 runs and scoring 243 themselves. Pitching is what Cleveland must work on.
The Boston Red Sox stand third in the ranking. It is the same Red Sox which had an embarrassingly poor 0-6 start. But since then, the team has barely looked back and is continuing their march towards triumph. With one of the most paid players in their fold,
Boston can now boast to be a team too incredibly relentless and uncompromising to battle.
Boston now has a .556 PCT, 16-11 record at home and 14-13 while playing the rivals on their home grounds. The Red Sox have been rapidly improving with their bull-pen, scoring 256 runs and allowing 228. In all likelihood, the days to come will make things
tremendously difficult for Boston’s competitors to survive their defence and crucially contain the bull-pen.
While the teams’ ranking may see decline or ascension, it would be extremely entertaining to see how the strong line-ups overtake or overwhelm the other to remain on top of the list.
