  1. Burn "green" candles made of natural waxes, renewable resources and lead free wicks and smell great.

You don' t necessarily have to stop doing something you enjoy but need to find a "green" substitute

  2. (1) Insist that plastic bags and excessive packaged goods be heavily taxed. Also all bottles, cans, and plastic containers should be made reusable and carry a monetary deposit. A 50 cent fee for every grocery store plastic bag used sounds great.

    (2) Impose a large fee on newspapers, fliers, circulars and junk mail. When these are recycled the recyclers are paid a fee (to encourage recycling). And people should pay for phone books and Yellow Pages. A lot of people don't want them, but still get them. Paper is a huge waste of resources and energy, and kills forests.

    (3) insist that alternate energy sources be developed and subsidized by governments (eg solar energy rooftops on houses). Large cars should be taxed heavily. Oil should not be imported. We should buy no oil from Middle Eastern countries or Russia. Nuclear power should be brought back in full force. And car companies that develop real electric cars and batteries very soon should get huge benefits and subsidies (and contracts). We can't afford to wait for ever for GM, Ford or Toyota to come out with a real fuel efficient car in 30 years. They've been dragging their feet too long. Also bring back the train and public transit, and build bike paths.

  3. My top three are:

    ~Recycling

    ~Carpool/walk or ride bike

    ~Save energy

Some other ideas I have are:

    ~Buy energy saving light bulbs

~Buy things like clothes, paper, ect that are made from recycled materials

~Use reusable batteries or recycle dead batteries properly

    ~Use reusable shopping bags

~If you have plastic shopping bags, use them instead of just tossing them. They can be used to pick up dog poo, line small trash cans, ect.

~Try not to use paper napkins or paper towel as much as possible. Instead use cloth napkins that can be washed.

~Try to use fewer paper plates and more washable ones.

    ~Take shorter showers

    ~Turn off lights whenever possible

~Try to buy more organic foods and local foods (for example, at a farmer's market)

    ~Use regular silverware, not plastic

~Use eco friendly products in replace of regular dish washing liquids, house cleaners, ect. (Greenworks)

~Use cold water to wash clothes (Tide Cold water works great)

~On a nice day, turn off the air/heat and open some windows. You save of the cost, get a nice fresh breeze, and help the environment.

~Plant trees around your house to shade and save on using more air conditioning

~Buy one stainless steel, reusable, water bottle instead of using regular plastic ones and then getting rid of them. This one you can clean and use over and over again!

~Change the setting on your sprinklers to use less water

~Buy eco friendly fertilizers (I think they have them at Home Depot)

~If painting, they have eco friendly paint at Home Depot

That is all I can think of, but you can also get some tips at www.gogreen.com Good luck :)

  4. reduce recycle reuse

  5. 1) a.Get some good canvas or cotton cloth bags and use them every time you go shopping. (I have used canvas bags since the late 1960s)

        b. Don't buy bottled water, soda, juices in the small plastic bottles. Get a reusable water bottle and drink tap water (which is what is in most of the bottled waters in the stores these days). Water is the healthiest thing for people  to drink!

    2) Rethink your transportation. Use the bus, lite rail system, subway, carpool when you can. Get a bicycle. Get rid of the big vehicles (SUVs, PU Trucks, Hummers) and use the smallest car (or motorcycle) feasible for you. Forget about where the car is made, buy the one that gets the best gas mileage. (I bought a Nissan in 1990 - got 34 mpg for 8 years, so I bought another one in 1998. Also, both Nissans did not need any major repairs until they approached 170K miles!) For past year I have not owned a car. My 2 sons, ages 26 & 30) have never owned cars. They bike - one does 5 miles to and from work 5 days a week. He also owns a motorcycle for getting out of city (Portland, OR - where else would a green, environmentally conscious vegetarian raised by a 1960's drug-free hippie mom live?) on weekends to camp & hike.

    3) Learn about everything you buy & use. Do you really need it? Was it made via an earth friendly process? Is it easy to recycle if you no longer want it. Do you really need it new? Check out thrift stores,  Freecycle.org, Craigslist.org, garage sales, etc; ask family, friends and neighbors if they want something you no longer need or have something you do need just laying around not being used.

  6. Recycle

  8. Reduse, reuse, recycle

Just reduse, reuse, an recycle the correct things =]

  9. The old mantra rings true, Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.

It doesn't matter who you are, you are very likely wasting more than you use, reduce energy consumption, reduce packaging, reduce food miles, reduce toxins in your home, reduce emissions, reduce waste.

Too many things in our life are disposable, very few people consider trying to repair things, it is usually cheaper to go get another item of low quality to replace it. Learn to repair and reuse items, look around at the items you have laying around your home that you have no use for, but are too good to throw away, find someone who could use them and return them to a useful existance. Most people wouldn't consider buying something if it was used, vintage and thrift stores are full of things that still have a lot of life left in them. I know a few very stylish people who regularly find amazing designer items in thrift stores. Antique furniture is almost always high quality, things were built to last.

Recycle, we all know we should and many do, but not as much as we could. Set up a system that is easy and fits your lifestyle. A recylce bin doesn't have to be boring, it can be beautiful, it can be anything, woven baskets, canvas totes, colorful wood or plastic bins or it can be hidden. Don't forget to complete the cycle and buy recycled. Almost anything made of paper, metal or glass can be made from recycled products.

  14. Support military action against dictators, Russia, China, Iran, North Korea.  Destroying those regimes will allow many people to breath freedom.

Own and care for pets.  This improves ones ability to deal with others and gives a person something to care for, which is often missing in our society. Everyone should have a pet.

Get married earlier.  Teenage angst is caused by people fighting their biological programming which has served humanity well for the last 50,000 years.  Biologically, people are designed to marry shortly after they go through puberty.  Doing so would greatly reduce unwanted pregnancies, heal rifts in families, reduce general heartbreak, provide a healthier environment for raising kids, and reduce distractions during college studies.
