Top transfer targets for Martin Jol at Fulham – English Premier League (Part 1)
Martin Jol was recently appointed as Fulham’s manager and as the summer transfer window enters into its busiest period, Jol and Fulham will need to invest in their squad if they are to fight for a Europa League place in the up-coming
English Premier League season. Fulham finished 8th in the 2010-2011 Premier League season and also qualified for the Europa League through their impressive fair play record in the 2010-2011 season.
Martin Jol thus needs a bigger squad in order to compete on two fronts. There is always a risk of a squad wide burn out when competing on two fronts with a smaller bunch of players thus Jol will need to invest and do it fast before
other club’s pounce on the players are need needed by Fulham F.C. Thus, let’s take a look at some transfer targets for Fulham and Martin Jol...
Scott Parker
There are bigger fish currently roaming around the West Ham midfielder and names such as Tottenham, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Everton-c39043 and even Liverpool are being thrown around. However Parker’s ideal destination would be somewhere which is close to a his
present residence in London as well as a club where he gets plenty of game time given that his main aim for the 2011-2011 Premier League season is to play regularly in order to feature for http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 in the European Championships in 2012.
These two requirements are filled by Fulham. Not only are that, Fulham also competing in the Europa League which serves as an added bonus for Scott Parker. The only issue with Parker are his wages and his transfer fee. Fulham really
do need a player like Parker in their central midfield to give them some protection at the back as well as options in the final third of the field.
The Englishman is renowned for his box to box approach and this will help Fulham whose club captain, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Danny-c10193 Murphy has deteriorated in both shape and form over the past year. Murphy’s age has played a major role in his woeful performances
for Fulham as at 34 years old, the former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 player is neither fit enough to play week in week out in both Premier League or the Europa League and to challenge other young players in oppositions squad.
This is where Parker comes in. He might be on the wrong side of 30 as well but Parker’s energy levels are tremendous. He kept West Ham United in the English Premier League relegation race almost singlehandedly at times in the previous
season. Not only that, Parker has a keen knack of getting crucial goals as well. With international experience on his side, Jol will snap up the chance to sign Parker. Fulham might have to part ways with their present team http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Captain-c8314 if such a move materializes
as Murphy’s departure will create wage space and squad space for the likes of Parker to come through.
If Fulham do intend to move forward as a club, then they will have to be a bit more ambitious in the summer transfer window. Already with new ownership, a new manager, this is the perfect opportunity for Fulham to fight for a top
half place in the Premier League for the coming season.
