One of the most underrated players of the Birmingham City squad, Liam Ridgewell is someone who can do well at Fulham. Ridgewell was the club http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Captain-c8314 at Birmingham City in their first return season in the English Premier League
and it was during that season that he formed his reputation as a no nonsense full back who can also play as centre back.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alex-c4752 McLeish’s team got relegated last season from the English Premier League thus Ridgewell will absolutely pounce on an opportunity to come back to the Premier League with a renowned outfit. Martin Jol will be interested in shoring
up Fulham’s http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Defence-c38904 with reinforcements as the Cottagers’ back line has looked rather weak when the likes of Brede Hangeland and Aaron Hughes have been absent.
In the upcoming season when Fulham compete in the Europa League, chances of fatigue will be high which means that chances of injury will be high as well. This means that Jol will need to bring in a solid versatile defender who
can fill in at centre back or full back whenever given the opportunity to do so. Moreover with Ridgewell, Fulham won’t have to worry about the wages or the transfer fee.
Birmingham’s defender is not a marquee name by any stretch of the imagination but that does not mean that he is not experienced enough at the highest level. Jol will also have to take a look at John Pantsil’s defending over the
past two season. The Ghanaian defender has been a weak link in Fulham’s defensive line thus Ridgewell can come in and provide Fulham’s new manager with options both on and off the field in terms of competition for places.
It was because of Ridgewell’s determined approach alongside other defenders in the Birmingham City squad that kept the Blues out of the relegation zone for a large part of the 2010-2011 season. Additionally it also meant that Birmingham
conceded fewer goals than any of the bottom five teams in the Premier League season.
With a golden opportunity at hand to sign a talent such as Liam Ridgewell, Fulham should not wait on their laurels. Tabloids have linked Ridgewell to a move away to the likes of Stoke City, Wigan Athletic and Newcastle United already.
Newcastle United will be Fulham’s greatest competitors for Ridgewell’s signature of the London club does enter into a race to sign the Englishman. Moreover at just 26 years of age, Ridgewell’s best years are ahead of him as a defender. He can be a part of
Fulham’s squad for years to come further complimenting a basis for a long term plan for the Cottager’s new manager, Martin Jol.
Last season, Liam was one of the most consistent performers for Birmingham City in the English Premier League as he scored four goals in 34 appearances for the relegated side. In his 34 matches he gathered six yellow cards and
one red card.
