Question:

Topical question about the North Pole ..?

just been watching that guy kayaking to the North Pole and wondered .. does the North and south pole actually have tidal movement? Obviously there's land mass but would the tide "go out" and expose a beach or wouldn't the moons pull make much difference?

What do you think ..?

  1. There's no land mass at the north pole.

  2. as the tidal bulge follows the moon/sun gravity vectors the north pole would not see a change in tides other than perhaps some effects because the Arctic Ocean is not symmetrical around the pole, which might reflect some of the changes in sea level as the tidal bulge moves around.  There isn't any significant land mass at the pole - it is fairly deep ocean there - most of the people reaching the north pole in the last 50 years have done so via submarine.
