The "trick" to writing a good persuasive essay is to write about something that you are passionate about (either positive or negative).  Choosing a topic you know a lot about and have your own opinion is the best way to go.  For instance, I could write about some of these:

Why some children will ALWAYS be "left behind"

Why the federal government should spend as much money on education as they do on the military

Why cell phones should be banned in secondary schools

Why there should be no dress code for teachers in public schools

Why the school day should begin and end one hour later

MARKETING TO CHILDREN. I did a persuasive essay on it once, and it killed!

I actually became a member of The Campaign for a Commercial Free Childhood (CCFC) because of the information I learned there.
