  1. poppers and frogs are two separate things...unfortunately. Poppers are generally lighter, and used around cover and open water. There are 2 types of topwater frogs (plastic and hollow body) and are often used the same way, but more big ones are caught right in the middle of the cover (matted weeds, thick green "goo", lily pads, etc). For frog fishing a heavier rod and heavier line is ideal. 15lb test minimum. There are a lot of good brand rods out there, GLoomis makes specialty rods, but are quite expensive. There are a lot of good baitcasting reels as well. Get a good reel like a Revo or a Curado and any heavy action rod should do.

Poppers being lighter, can be used with spinning or baitcasting gear but i dont use poppers with a frogging rod. Shimano has good rod and reels for spinning, but you can also get a cheap combo with a medium action or medium-light action. 8-10lb test would be sufficient. Sorry i couldnt be more specific on the rods and reels, but a local tackle store can help you out with that. they are very knowledgable. Good Luck, you wont be sorry with frog fishing, you can catch some big bass! E-mail me if there is something you want clarification on.
