Torch bearers contacted by LOCOG - London Olympics
A total of 6,800 people have recently been contacted by the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games (LOCOG) on a conditional basis to participate in the Olympic Torch Relay that is going to take a period of 70 days to complete its run.
The first person to be contacted today by the IOC was a man based in North London to be the torch bearer of the London 2012 Olympic Games.
In all, the Olympic Games organisers want a total of 8,000 people to be a part of the 70 day torch bearing activity. The selection for the purpose of bearing the Olympic torch is done over a wide variety of areas. Not only that, the selection is also done
by more than one method. These selection methods include filtering out people by conducting public nomination campaigns that are run by LOCOG as well as the sponsors of the Olympic Games. Not only that, people are also invited by the Olympic Games organisers
to be a part of the prestigious international sporting event.
The 6,800 individuals who now have the golden opportunity to be a part of the Olympic Games next year have until the 25th of January to give in their acceptance of the invitation sent out to them. Doing so also involves providing the LOCOG with
the required documents as well as the requirements related to their accessibility. Other than that, the uniform sizes of the individuals with the offer are also required by the LOCOG.
It is the third time that the city of London will be playing host to the Olympic Games in the summer next year. After having welcomed the event to its soil for the third time, the capital of England will become the first ever city in the world to have staged
the Olympic Games. The first time that the Olympics came to London was back in 1908 while the second time was almost half a century later in the year 1948.
The torch rally is going to cover a distance of 12,800 kilometres around England and include 1,018 villages on its way before reaching its end on the 27th of July.
