Torii Hunter calls his union with Detroit Tigers a “Perfect Marriage” – MLB Update
In an interview with a leading sports website, Hunter called his union with the Detroit Tigers “a perfect marriage”. Hunter has accomplished almost everything in his long Major League Baseball career except for the fact he has not won a World Series title.
After spending five years in Los Angeles, Hunter moved to free agency at the end of 2012 regular season. He wanted to be signed by team capable of winning the World Series title as that is only thing he has left to accomplish.
However, there are several other advantages to being back in the American League Central Division. Being in Detroit, he will be able to call up his wife when she will not be asleep. In addition to that, he will have an excellent opportunity to see his son
every now and then.
Hunter’s son Torii Jr. was recently signed by a football team in Detroit. According to source, Hunter will be just a couple of hours away from his son and therefore, he will be able to go out there and hang out with his son for a day.
"I see growth. I've seen the face of Detroit change, and it looks better downtown than 10-15 years ago," Hunter said. "It's a lot better. But we still got some work to do. And that's what I want to do. I want to give back, I want to get involved. If there's
investment opportunities out there, I want to get involved.”
"I am only two-and-a-half, three hours away from my son," said Hunter, 37. "Not just talking about catching football games, but on a day off I can go out there and hang out with him for a day."
He has a soft corner for Detroit in his heart. Visiting the city over the years, he insists he has seen a lot of progress. The Tigers also showed great interest in the former Angels’ outfielder as soon as the season ended. Hunter, who hit .313 with 16 home-runs
and 92 RBI’s last season, will be looking to make the most of available opportunities next season to put the final piece to a championship puzzle for the Tigers.
