Torii Hunter shines as Los Angeles Angels defeat Baltimore Orioles 8-3 - MLB Update
Los Angeles Angels’ designated hitter, Torii Hunter had an extraordinary day with the bat as he hit five RBIs including two runs and went 2-for-3 with an average of .259 in the Angels’ 8-3 win against the Baltimore Orioles at Angel Stadium of Anaheim, California
on August 19.
Angels got off to a quick start as they smashed four runs at the bottom of first inning to get a 4-0 lead. Howie Kendrick drove a single-run shot towards right-field and Peter Bourjos scored the first run for Angels. Alberto Callaspo moved to third base.
Then, Hunter struck a three-run homer (364 feet) to left-field while Callaspo and Kendrick added two consecutive run to end the four-run campaign for Angels.
In the second inning, Angels raised their lead 5-0 when Bourjos hit a one-run homer (365 feet) to left-field. Orioles got off the mark by scoring one run during the third inning and reduced their lead 5-1. Adam Jones added a single run for Orioles when Matt
Wieters bunted a single-run drive towards right-field.
Bobby Wilson singled to left-field during the fourth inning, but Mike Trout struck-out looking and Bourjos struck-out swinging. Later on, Wilson got out to second base when Callaspo hit a grounder into fielder’s choice to short-stop position. Angels’ starter,
Dan Haren pitched his seven innings beautifully as he surrendered nine hits, three runs and three earned runs with an ERA of just 2.98. He had eight strike-outs on his 108 pitches.
During fifth inning, J.J. Hardy scored one run for Orioles to cut their deficit 5-2 when Jones hit a sacrifice fly to right-field. In the seventh inning, Orioles added up just one run to their score-card while Angels smashed two runs to extend their lead
7-3, at the bottom of seventh inning. Josh Bell scored the last run for Orioles when Jones again hit a sacrifice fly to right-field.
On the other side, Hunter hit his second homer (430 feet) of the game towards left-field and Callaspo contributed a single run during seventh inning. Mike Trout struck a one-run homer (396 feet) towards left-centre to post the final run for Angels and gave
them an 8-3 lead, at the bottom of eighth inning.
Consequently, Angels led off the three-game series 1-0 after having a decent win.
