Torn chest muscle: Cleveland Browns’ DT Phil Taylor goes under knife, no return timeline-NFL News
The Cleveland Browns are not ruling their defensive tackle, Phil Taylor, out of the entire 2012 National Football League (NFL) season officially due to his chest surgery but given the average amount of time required for recovery and rehabilitation from such
injuries, he may well be on the course to sit out the entire next season.
Browns, while giving details on the latest status of the player’s health, said he is resting in a Cleveland clinic after going under the knife to get repaired a torn pectoral muscle in his chest. The surgery went well, the team has reported.
A firm view on the player’s recovery and return to the squad has not come out from any circles of the game or medical experts while Browns themselves have refrained from commenting on the timeline.
This leaves the situation down to an earlier statement from coach, Pat Shurmur, that the player will consume “months not weeks” on the recovery and rehab.
Taylor’s agent has also maintained a mum on the recovery matter of his client.
In wake of the coach’s assertion of consumption of rather lengthy time period on recovery and experience of some former players who have undergone similar injury circumstances, the player is most likely to need six months before reporting back his fitness
to the team.
It is pertinent to cite here the torn pectoral muscle injury of Browns’ linebacker, D’Qwell Jackson, who missed most part of two seasons while recovering from it.
Although in case of Taylor both sides are apparently optimistic about quicker recovery, the risk of spending so much time on rehab as Jackson did is very much there.
Even though the management and people closer to Taylor have refused to concede anything at the moment, there is a concern the player might miss the entire 2012 NFL season.
The situation is expected to be clearer before the start of the regular season in September.
The player has three and a half months to rest and stay focused on rehab, and a firm timeline of his return can be anticipated by then.
Meanwhile, DTs, Billy Winn and John Hughes, are likely to be given addition responsibility in absence of Taylor.
