Torn meniscus?

I tore my meniscus about 9 months ago. I had a scope shortly after; I could not run for 7 months and as such have put on about 10kgs, which obviously does not help. I love running so want to keep on doing it. Unfortunately it does hurt to run. As surgery failed for me, what would you suggest moving forward?? I'm running now, but it definately does not feel rigt.

  1. Because the knees are weight bearing, it usually takes longer than estimated for complete healing.  Better to excercise in a different form such as machines, swimming, etc.

If you feel you must run, consider using a knee support of some sort until your knee feels stronger.  Even then, do so with caution.

  2. I'm sorry, knees are painful. I've had 2 ACL surgeries with meniscus repair. In order to relieve the stress from your weight on your knees, do some other form of cardio to get your added weight off. Such as, ellyptical machine, swimming, even walking at a good pace. Also, if you still feel like you need to run, run on soft surfaces, such as tracks with padding, don't run on asphault or cement. Get some high end running shoes with Spenco (Sp) insoles. I get mine at Footlocker.

Other people say that Glucosomene (sp) supplements helps with the repairs. Get them online or GNC stores. I drank Joint Juice for while and felt some difference, not as sore after long runs. Studies show that if you take that for a long time and get it in your system it helps repair your cartliage.

Hope this helps. Remember to always ice after your runs too, helps reduce swelling and pumps blood to area.
