Torn triceps: Houston Texans coach Gary Kubiak confirms DT Ra’Shon Harris out for season – NFL News
The Houston Texans have further suffered on the defensive front due to a season-ending injury scare to defensive tackle Ra'Shon Harris and the team with existing strength at the position can face an overall negative impact on the performance.
Coach Gary Kubiak confirmed that Ra’Shon tore his right triceps during an individual workout on Tuesday and that the injury is most likely to force him out of the side for the rest of the season.
Gary said they have placed the player on the injured reserve (IR) list, meaning they will be unable to seek a replacement at his position during the rest of the season.
Had there been a change in the IR rules, which the National Football League (NFL) and NFL Players Association (NFLPA) have failed to agree yet, the Texans could have created a roster spot for replacement at his position, for the first half of the season
at least.
Although the coach did not confirm chances of Harris’ return, some independent reports claimed he is definitely out of the squad for the rest of the year.
This should be another setback to career development of the tackle. He has not much played since being selected in the 2009 draft by the Pittsburgh Steelers. He was confident of his chances this season given the Texans were and are in a desperate situation
to strengthen their defence.
Defensive end J.J. Watt with dislocated left elbow and nose tackle Shaun Cody with a sore back are already out on the sidelines. Amid the situation, Harris could have possibly been given the leading role in the team’s defensive scheme. Unfortunate for him
that he has lost the opportunity even before claiming it.
The Texans signed Harris as a free agent earlier this year. He was hundred percent and participated in all offseason programme of the team. Previously, the tackle had played for the Carolina Panthers and before that for Steelers but both stints were insignificant
and for a very brief period.
