Torn triceps: Houston Texans coach Gary Kubiak rues OT Rashad Butler ousting – NFL News
Houston Texans’ coach Gary Kubiak has confirmed the season for offensive tackle Rashad Butler is on the line due to a triceps injury that he suffered in the game against the Minnesota Vikings on Thursday.
It is a rather unfortunate development for the player who recently expressed his disappointment over losing the starting job to Derek Newton.
Gary confirmed that Rashad's injury is torn triceps muscles in right arm, which is going to require him a longer period for recovery and rehab, and that he is most likely to be out of the side for the rest of the season.
He said:
"It's unfortunate - a tough, tough deal. He comes back from the other injury, battles, does a heck of a job and handles himself like a big-time pro. You hurt for guys that work their tail off."
The coach did not elaborate if the player had been placed on the injured reserve (IR) list, which should allow his return to action after miss of initial six games of the season.
In that case the team under the changed rules of the professional league regulator National Football League (NFL) can bring a temporary replacement for him on their roster.
Apparently, the tackle’s immediate prospects are in uncertainty and some commentators fear as worse for him as release, which will be another disappointing development to progression of his league career.
Rashad was clearly unhappy after the Texans named Newton as a new starter on the position but obviously could not do much but to express his willingness to play as a backup. Now the injury has completely ruled him out for any role.
The timing of injury is even worse given that the player has just returned from a triceps injury in the left arm, which had forced him on the sidelines for 14 consecutive games last season. He had been working hard since the return and was upbeat of the
chances to step up his game.
He can still avail an opportunity for return to action by mid of this season provided the team remains willing to accept him back and to do that they must place him on the IR.
