Tornado Alicia Black beats Oleksandra Korashvili 6-3, 6-4
14-year-old American, Tornado Alicia Black rallied past Oleksandra Korashvili in the first round at US Open Championships 2012, in New York. The local challenger prevailed in straight sets 6-3, 6-4 on Wednesday
afternoon.
The Ukrainian junior was unable to hold her serve in the opening game which marked a careless start. Black smartly progressed and clinched a break, securing her 4-love lead. As the game advanced, Korashvili broke
her opponent’s serve in the sixth game and brought the score line to 3-4 later on. This created an alarming situation for the American contestant, who aced forward to jolt down a 6-3 win after nailing another break of serve.
The next set proved a tough challenge for American, as she struggled hard to evade the thrashing from her opponent in the beginning. However, Black picked a slow start and the 16-year-old Ukrainian stamped her
4-love score, breaking rival’s serve twice i.e. in the first and third game correspondingly. However, Black made a valiant comeback after that to square off the score line to 4-4 and then went on to snatch the opportunity to wrap up the match with her 6-4
win.
Korashvili majorly lost because of her nine taxing double faults in the match but attained all the break points offered to her. On the other hand, Black had a 62 percent first serve accuracy, converting 36 of
58 points.
Antonia Lottner overcomes Jennifer Brady 6-3, 6-3
Seeded fourth at the US Open 2012 Girls’ Singles, Antonia Lottner battled past Jennifer Brady to qualify for the second round 6-3, 6-3 later that day.
The German junior exhibited an excellent start in the opening set and clinched the initial three games to impose her lead by 3-0. She broke her rival’s serve in the second game but as the contest progressed,
the American struggled to attain some points, bringing the scores to 3-5 in the second last game. Nevertheless, the American lost as she made a slow move, eventually the German participant closed the opening set with a 6-3 score.
In the next set, Brandy was unable to hold her first delivery and gifted Lottner the initial two games bring the score to 2-0. The German broke her opponent’s serve twice in the fifth and the last game, which
finalized her win with a 6-3 score.
The right-hander German participant had an average first serve precision of 64 percent, converting 25 of 36 points. She managed to grab four of nine serve breaks in the match. On the other hand, Brady had 59
percent first serve and attained one of three break points offered to her.
