  1. 99.98% of the time the rotation of a tornado is counter-clockwise, it is the opposite in the southern hemisphere

a tornado is only a tornado if it is in contact with the ground, however, it can be difficult to see the contact with the ground if you are not sure what to look for, there may or may not be a condensation funnel visible yet the tornado is in contact with the ground.

the safest place to be is in the lowest level of a sturdy structure. a basement or interior room away from windows and under a sturdy object like a table or staircase is best, generally speaking tornadoes move from the southwest to the northeast, but not always. so it is best to put as much distance between you and the storm as possible.

  2. MOST (but NOT all) tornados rotate counter-clockwise (which makes SENSE, seeing as how they ARE mini-Low Pressure areas). When a funnel cloud touches the Ground- it Officially becomes a Tornado... And the SAFEST place to BE at the approach of a Tornado- is in the corner of a Basement, or in the Bathtub in a Bathroom -in the middle of your House.

  3. Where is the safest place to be during a tornado?

your house, like in those trap door thingys.

Like where they went in the wizard of oz =]

  4. tornado winds can revolve either clockwise OR counterclockwise. however they are almost always counterclockwise in the northern hemisphere, clockwise in the southern.

a common mistake is that a tornado has to touch the ground to be termed "tornado". that is false. rotation in a violent storm below the clouds (not in the upper atmosphere) is a tornado. there is no "winds touching"

the safest place is either a basement or if you dont have one, the center of your house (in a hallway or bathroom) away from all windows and doors. never be in the corner (debris from outside can come crashing through the wall you are by) the more walls between you and the outside of your house, the better. if you are on the road, in a ditch as low as possible. also, not in a mobile home, a tornado can easily toss it around.
