This question is bothering me.. where I live we have been getting pretty bad weather and in my house I have no basement and the bathroom has windows.. the hallway which is located in the center of the house is right below a attic filled with heavy boxes... Is the hallway still safe? I mean.. if a tornado were to ever pass by would the boxes like... crush my family if we ever huddled in the hallway >< ?

And... this question may sound stupid but is a chimney counted as a lighting rod? Please answer... I'm rather paranoid

  1. you can go to the hallway but cover yourself with a mattress....just because the bathroom has windows ... and no a chimney isnt considered a lightning rod

  2. Anywhere on the lower floor in the center of your house is the safest place to be. I ran into this paranoia a few times, but the center of your house is the safest place because you want to put as many barriers in between you and the storm, and, because the center of your house has the most supports.

  3. The bathroom windows are probably small.  Sounds like the safest place for you would be in the bathtub....  get in and cover it with a mattress.
